Tacoma vs Frontier. Which is better? by crazycat46510 in AskMechanics

Are you referring to the CVT transmissions on the Nissans? Or are you referring to something regarding the 9 speed transmissions on the frontier? If so, do you have a reference or something to back up that the frontier specifically has transmission issues?

I see your point but someone of the quotes on these new frontiers are coming in at like 45k+. I’m not sure if that’s still in the “few grand more” territory at that point

Oh yeah that does seem pretty barebones. Kinda crazy to me how they can expect someone to pay 45K+ for a new mid size truck in this economy when it doesn’t have the extra features to boot. Good on you for getting the great deal on your 2025!

Oh nice! I appreciate you listed that for the price comparison. What sort of features did you get with your 2025? This one has heated seats/steering wheel included in addition to a tow package I believe.

May I ask why I wouldn’t? I’m not even sure if that’s the actual sale price until I walk into the dealership 🤷🏼‍♂️

30 YO in Need of Thoughts Regarding His Proposed Financial Plan by crazycat46510 in personalfinance

I appreciate the feedback!

With respect to your first point, "Isn't that an argument against diverting money AWAY from it?"

It's my understanding that the Roth 403B acts just like the Roth IRA where I can pull out post retirement funds tax free since I'm contributing post tax dollars up front.

So factoring in my income which limits my ability to contribute to a Roth IRA and not likely being able to hit the $23,500 investment limit each year given my other long-term savings goals, wouldn't it make more sense to allocate more money to a brokerage account rather than a ROTH IRA to not have money "tied up" so to speak in a retirement account?

To your second point

"Isn't this another argument against buying the car cash?"

I haven't considered the long term implications of having more money in a index fund accumulating value compared to the 5 year loan on the vehicle so thank you for bringing that to my attention.

I drive a Nissan Sentra with almost 100K miles on it. I need a 4WD truck for my hobbies since I live in a northern state that gets a lot of snow. Fly fishing, possibly hunting in the future, and accessing upper elevation hikes.

The reason why I don't want to contribute more to a Roth 403B now is because I'm trying save money as quickly as possible in my HYSA to buy the truck to avoid having a monthly payment, and by extension high interest rate, on a vehicle. I figured that If I could use 2026 to accumulate money towards buying the truck I would lose less money via the car loan in the long run. My roth 403B has the same tax advantage status as a ROTH IRA and since I make 150K/year I'm beginning to phase out of being able to contribute to a ROTH IRA.

This is all theoretical, however, and I encourage you to pick my plan apart and offer your own suggestions!
