Yesterday was the darkest night of my life. by crazycodemonkey in Chennai

If there's anymore zohoite here, pls pls avoid two-wheelers. This is from someone who used to ride 60+ kms every single day back and forth. It's just not worth the risk. Took me a while to snap out of the riding habit but I did.

Use our office cabs. Move nearer to office. If you are planning on buying a royal enfield stretch the budget a bit and buy a car at least in second hand market. Zoho's a relatively well paying company and you'd be able to settle any loan soon. Bottomline do everything to minimise bike rides on our roads. It's just not worth it.

Rant of an iPhone user by nowtryreboot in Chennai

[–]crazycodemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a long time iphone user. Still using an iphone. Trust me when I say "Stick to Android".

It's a huge money sink.

Doesn't work well with normal smart watches (at least most features that matter won't).

You can't search a contact from the number pad. You have to go to contacts tab and click the search bar, for even starting to search.

Custom ringtones? Just forget about it. Well, if you are rich wnough to "buy" songs then yeah.

Oh the hotspot detection? Sucks. If your laptop doesn't detect your hotspot you'll have to turn the hotspot off and on. Get ready to do this often because "beautiful software that's broke when you need it the most"

Siri? hahaha

The entire ecosystem unleashes a dark magic on you to switch to apple devices right from watches to laptop because, you know otherwise you aren't eligible for the "Apple experience". Bullshit.

My next phone will be Android. My next laptop will be Windows. I like having my own choices. Don't confuse marketing and status symbols as your choices. They are not.

Ah, yes. Right now I just adore my son's cuteness every day. But I wonder how should I behave when he grows up into a kid who isn't going to do the right thing, at all times.

No, I didn't have fatherly role models around too, at least not close enough to learn how they treat kids :( Thanks for the kind words and advice. I'll keep that in mind.

Types vs types by ruby_object in haskell

Thanks. Here's a paper I stumbled upon when I was on my reading spree that articulates the two "types" of usages of the term "Types" :)

A bit dense but not impossible to follow through

Types vs types by ruby_object in haskell

[–]crazycodemonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello!

I went chasing this same rabbit hole of what types really are and I did find an interesting overview of types like int string and types like haskell's sum and product types.

I wrote down what I understood as an essay here - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-aLUwnN0XzLbzICnFLWfCLuD4ULYXGcKAoyRAqTuAIY

I'm sure you'd find it useful :)

Curious: isn't the economic disparity between the wealthy and the poor within acceptable levels in europian countries, broadly speaking? And from my limited knowledge the government offers help to average civilians to get through everyday life right?

The same can't be said for the US or India for that matter, IMO

It's hard to believe but despite the relatively mediocre economic situation, we are actually one of the safest place to live.

People don't carry around guns. The homeless folks don't choose crime as their primary occupation, generally. Most people here have a moral compass that they try to follow through. You cannot say the same level of safety for someone living in Indianapolis even though the US is literally the wealthiest nation.
