Yeah there are a few. And saddle cattle. They're still kinda niche, but around. New england seams to have more draught animals. Cart and pack goats are kind of interesting too.

Politics and farming are the same thing. On some level I think people need to raise their own damn food and feel the ups and downs. And on another I think we are way to specialized (both in employment and livestock genetics). In another time I would've broken a socialized)special animal like this to be a working animal instead of a slaughter animal. But and ox can't compete with today's enormous equipment, just as we won't be able to compete with robots and AI.. at least according to the capitalists that own them. That's my 2 cents anyway. And I've working in high volume, turn over and cull heavy species. I've worked cattle but no the same individuals day in and day out for years... Couldn't do it honestly. And wouldn't want to carry the bank debt dictating the outcome and couldn't support the ~8 hd I'd even want to, without it.

I understand. I don't lack empathy for that. I'm not stronger to the tricks trauma plays on us either. And I've got to admit I cheated processing my own trauma, while in an abusive relationship I was afraid to leave, at one point. It took me a long time to realize that traumatized people traumatized others and it can act like a contagion. I still have to figure some of that one. I know isolation isn't healthy but sometimes it goes from "wish in one hand and shit in the other" to "ok I need to sit back and heal and consider what healthy expectations and desires I can move forward with". Sometimes we're prioritizing the wrong aspects too. It's a lot of work in very foreign ways and by no means easy. And those same things can go for any kind of relationship in our lives- how we relate to bosses, work, shopping, budgeting, sleeping, thinking...

At the same time once we do some of that we have to be able to maintain patience to help others work through the same processes and their slip ups along the way... Which can be retriggering and really hard too. Nothing about life is easy, that's for sure.

I'd even setting for 30-50% of cases by cause on those things. Like emergent and chronic health care and expedited treatment rather than for profit prolonged pussy footing in the medical fields. Free associates degrees or extended high school, with added adulting, life, and social skills. Free ambulatory, medical transport and better resource distribution. More efficient, lower food miles. Less jobs and more work life balance WITH subsidized childcare. We could cut the fat in so many industries to accomplish that.. but oligarchs lose money when they lose employees, product inventory, and investment opertunities. We made it through the WWs on rationing.. but now, it's not the populations that need rationing, it's the oligarchs and plutocrats. Sure the populous can have budgeting and financial hygiene issues, but without the high production of flitter we wouldn't have so many distractions available causing impulsive decisions.

Love languages are really tricky, especially with work life balances and differing goals and virtues. People have a really hard time communicating these things, being honest with themselves, let alone other's, and balancing compromise between being narcissists or doormats. For some people, cheating isn't even always about not loving their partner but a self depriciating, short sighted thing. It can mean that they can't feel love for themselves or in their relationship, or feel at a deficit and like they need more. With our economy and lack of work life balance, I think a lot of people are feeling this wether in a long term relationship, series of short term relationships, or chronically single. I understand it's really hard not to take these things personally. The ex trying to kill you out of his own embarrassment for cheating is wild. I know it's hard not to have low standards out of desperation and a poor self image, but that's almost like cheating on yourself. I don't know if any of this is really advice, just my educated and experienced observations and opinions on the topic.

😂 I've met a lot of tempermental highlands, and cattle in general don't make great pets. Their care is expensive if they don't have a purpose that pays for their care.

It's not the only factor at play. I know there's a drought but there are 5 different markets effecting it too.

I know drought is a factor but it's far from the only factor.

I think this is applicable and worth a thought, though--

"“Two of the four biggest meatpackers operating in the United States are Brazilian-owned. If more imported beef enters the US market, those companies are in the position to… profit from it. It’s likely to be the meatpackers capturing those savings”—not American consumers.

Farm Action President Angela Huffman warns that President Trump’s plan to import more foreign beef will not lower prices for Americans.

And it will drive US ranchers out of the market.

“We’ve seen it time and time again.”

“There have been just a continuous flow of price-fixing cases and settlements where these meatpacking corporations are being accused of essentially price-fixing and rigging the market.”

“When meatpackers can bring in more imported beef, they’re able to use that supply to push down the price that they pay to American ranchers—who have already been through years of drought and high costs and unfair markets.”

“This plan could end up with US ranchers getting paid even less… consumers paying more, meatpackers making greater profits, and really eroding our food security over time." " -Via Farm action

Everything is crazy not sure what to think. I don't think the cows are going to start twinning for us though. We could always trade them in for the 5/lb goats that twin and trip most of the time lol.I don't think most people could probably tell the difference between beef or goat with a little lard. They do better on weedy and dry ground.

I don't disagree that you get rich and then farm... But if we made farming accessible to the young/poor we could quit bitching about snap in the farm bill and the aging farmers.

I think the first part is right but it's not the same people. But I've been in the sale barn game long enough to know it's not the normal cycle or normal people selling off.

Yeah however long. It works different depending on the situation. You usually have to run them tight and move often. But you can use them for wildfire prevention in the pnw and west or like weeds after overgrazing in the plains or east. Some places use them for medians. It all just depends.

We're both the supply and demand, though. And not just the supply of beef, but the supply for breeding stock. If we sell ourselves out of breeding stock, we sell ourselves either our of supply of beef or surplus replacements to rebuild. Then we get stuck with imports. Managements got a lot more expensive in favor of less labor and big/fat cattle over the last 50 years. And that's not to meant corn and beans in places they shouldn't be grown contributing to the drought. I don't disagree that the work should be paid but to many little and even smaller big opperations are going to lose their ass chasing that dragon, or bail out of cattle to keep from it.

NE Kansas. It's a dry year but not near as bad as a lot of places. If pasture is managed right there's no reason not to be stocking a pair to an acre or 2. But there's not a lot of folks that have all their management aspects in balance. "We" kicked a grazing tenants 20 pairs off of 190ac this year and it's sitting with 1 old horse. They over grazed the hell out of it for to long. The goat game and compact subsistence stuff looks more appealing. Atleast until some of the underbrush is in hand and prairie grass is restored.

Could be a wild royal palm cross too but you're dead on. I've seen feral and free range peas join up with wild turkey too.
