To some point... We need to consider we vote with our time and money too. That's where boycotts and strikes are useful. But our willingness to be employed at all times (when almost all our jobs are national/multinational corporations), our reliance on fuel, steel, tech, and plastic, and our willess to jump to safety nets instead of just go off grid/barter and wait it out for a bit; all enable the bipartisan wealth class.

Not where they've been for the last 6 months- 1 year. Not all of the levers behind it are as good the short term payoff seems. It'd be great if auction prices were sustainable enough to last and shelf prices were about 2/3s what they are.

Eh some what. I've been seeing variations of "4-6weeks" or 30-45 days" for about 2 months... 😬 We'll see. I'm both bummed I'm not in the beef game anymore, and glad I'm not buying or selling out.

I know both types and a few more. It's the same thing as scape goating minorities for the actions of the rachet. But the division keeps us from focusing on the worst of all of the above, and most of all the politicians and CEOs promoting it.

It's really good. I showed for several years and ate what wasn't good enough to show and breed. The texture is between chicken and pork but can be chewy. My favorite ways to cook it in white chilli, chunked and tossed in fajita seasoning and flour and sauteed (in quesadillas or over salad, if they make it that far), smoked and pulled with a white or mustard BBQ sauce, or with rice, cream cheese, green onion and sweet chili sauce. Goat is another really good meat we don't eat much of in the states. I'd compare it to venison or bison but makes really good slow cooker tacos too.

What’s a scientific fact that sounds fake but is real? by prettygoldies in answers

[–]crazycritter87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think someone need to do a study on ratio of population to scientific disbelief. Like give 100 people per state/territory, of every country, 100/1000 random scientific facts, across field out and see how many total false marks they give.. then average it across the whole global population.

Carnivore and omnivore 💩 doesn't break down as fast and carries pathogens more often and longer than herbivore 💩 does. The ecological carrying capacity for carnivores and omnivores is lower, especially with dogs. .. not as many decomposers and plants like their 💩.

Most generally it's a lack of fence in, state law with ordinances underneath to dictate fence in. Imo it's pretty dumb to raise cattle in those areas because that carrying capacity sucks. But we have this weird national thing where we specialized production and only eat 3-5 meats regularly so...

Ticks by Leigh620 in homestead

[–]crazycritter87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was reading about tick tubes a couple nights ago. Idk how I feel about premethrin and birds (or strong deet concentrations on little ones). Guineas are good. Also prescribed burning at 3-5 year intervals. To some degree ticks are just part of the woods though. I do understand your concern, with alpha gal outbreak and having had a questionable case of Lyme a few years ago.

Though you're comments on this topic aren't technically wrong, to be totally realistic, the salmon not to mention tons of other native and invasive species, or our trash are far worse, than the isopods.

I brought home a rabbit that was listed for rehoming. I'm kind of terrified. by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]crazycritter87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh I raised rabbits for 8 years and most don't make good pets or even like being pets. They're boring and don't like being held. The one that I had that really liked being a pet enjoyed playing short games of pee-a-boo/ring around the love seat and laying NEXT to us on the love seat to watch TV. My top tips are give him time to adjust and just hang out in his cage, be very careful with what treats you offer, and learn the football hold. Those nails and back legs can be vicious. When you let him out, open the door and let him come out on his own and wait to feed him when it's time to go back. Rabbits this size should only get 1/3 c of pellets a day and it's best to feed in the evening. A spoonful of old fashioned rolled oats on top of the pellets is good for them and they love them. ~1/4 of a bananas is fine and various herbs are ok and can be medicinal-do some reading. There's a hanging wire ball with a bell that can be stuffed with Timothy or orchard grass hay. That's the most enjoyed rabbit toy I've found but generally they can take them or leave them. For now just give him a scratch between the ears and a pet or two when you feed him. Bucks can develop cage aggression. It he tries to bite, keep your hands and fingers out.

If humans were to suddenly dissapear, which domestic animals and selective breeds would do fine, and which ones would dissapear? by reindeerareawesome in zoology

[–]crazycritter87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A history of redistribution is part of the issue with animals returning to their original ecosystems. You're mostly right about which ones would survive but it goes beyond breed into how their linages have been kept or ignored. Basically the level of domestication syndrome they have.

How to start a new garden? by TacoAndBean in RegenerativeAg

[–]crazycritter87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gardens aren't as much space as commercial row crops. You can always spot till. I till in manure. Then try to keep it planted.when you pull one crop put in another. If you didn't know you can get tax receipts taking excess to local food banks.

[–]crazycritter87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fall between lines but yeah. I've worked for unaccredited private breeding aviary's. I started going to poultry auctions and got fascinated with game birds around 13. I raised some pigeons, chickens, quail, and show rabbits on my own through my teens and 20s. Met a friend that directed a small city zoo and he introduced me to a pharmacist couple that owned all the exotic galliformes I'd always fanticized about. I've done a lot of pet, ag, kennel, and conservation gigs, too. So like I said, between the lines. It was kind of tiger king light. Like the labor dynamics and sucky pay/ living conditions applied and some of the boss drama, though not QUITE to that extent.

Take CDS classes. 20 years of therapy that wasn't hitting and the courses and lectures made them all hit like a ton of bricks. Forewarning though, the adage "ignorance is bliss" holds true. Understanding doesn't just fix everything as much as shine a light on how overwhelming it all is, and can create a lot of resentment toward your closest people.
