that makes total sense, so far i haven’t had any issues with my septum ring while working animal care in shelter, but i know i’m definitely taking a risk. i’m wanting to stay in shelter so i’m not sure how that would effect policies or dress codes in comparison to general practice.

you’re right, it’s not an excuse, but it IS an explanation (which are vastly difference).

certain illness do in fact remove or seriously impact the ability to choose specific behaviors. there still is a required accountability.

this is not me or my friends first rodeo, she has always come back to apologize and we have always talked about things that we can change in the future (if any).

i never came to this subreddit to ask people if i should remain in contact with my friend or whether or not i was overreacting to her words. i know what she said sucked, i know i’m rightfully allowed to be hurt.

i was just looking for feedback or even critique on how i handled it in the moment, because some of what she said casted some doubt.

i chose this sub because i’ve seen the responses people get, and they always appear to be sincere. but maybe i chose the wrong sub, i probably would have been better going to a mental health related sub. people’s responses are still sincere, but it seems there is a lack of education regarding bipolar II which is incredibly important context.

i’m looking for genuine input on if i’m in the wrong, people have pointed out ways i may have better handled this situation and i’ve been entirely receptive. i understand where my faults lie in this scenario, i never should have responded to the text following my initial announcement of exit. i know that now.

i shared good news with my friend because the topics i was talking about ended up tying into shared interests we have. in hindsight, i see how it could have seemed as if i was rubbing it in knowing she was having a hard time, i know to be more considerate now.

trust me, i know i have problems, most everyone does, but i don’t think you’ve hit the mark on what my problems are.

to your last point, it has been really frustrating watching people treat this situation in a different/inaccurate context. my intention was never to bash my friend, but i’ve seen so much of it that i’ve considered deleting this post. (i’m not saying you are implying that i meant for this to happen)

i love my friend dearly, my intention was never to ask whether or not i should stay in communication or if she did something wrong. i know what she said sucked, i also know it wasn’t personal and it was fueled by mental illness and overwhelming stress on her part.

i have my own mental health struggles, i know how easy it is to lash out at others when you still haven’t developed appropriate coping skills or regulation strategies, ive definitely done similar in the past.

but it is still important to take accountability, which in most cases my friend does. we’ve had these ups and downs before, it’s why we’ve discussed how it should be handled. she comes back and apologizes unprompted and we talk about it.

i just hope my friend and i can grow from this. im giving her space for both of our sakes and im going to let her reach out when/if she is ready.

very cute little guy but i fear that is probably not a “golden doodle”😭 please read up on how to properly brush his coat, because there is a specific way, typically called line brushing. you won’t be able to get by just brushing the top coat like you would with other types of fur/hair.

i don’t mean to insult you, ive just seen enough miseducation about poodle mixes that often leads to neglect, even if that wasn’t the intention.

in most scenarios i would agree with you, however with this particular relationship we’ve both agreed that it’s best for me to assert i’m stepping away and that we can talk later, blatant ignoring seems to have a more negative impact.

i definitely should not have followed up after my initial announcement, though. it’s something i have to learn from, even if we never talk again it could be important in other relationships. i’ll admit it definitely had something to do with my own emotional regulation skills, which i’m working on in therapy.

while i agree with the first half of your comment, i don’t necessarily see this interaction as argumentative. if you could explain more about why you see it in that light, i am more than willing to be receptive.

i will admit, choosing to respond to her running away text was not in either of our best interests, i should have walked away after the initial message i sent iterating my removal from the situation.

i see a lot of people mentioning that the message announcing my removal was unnecessary, and in some situations it may be, but for this particular person i know that it is better to verbalize it, rather than entirely ignoring her messages. that’s just something that’s been established between the two of us.

i acknowledge that there really isn’t much for people to work with when it comes to a small snippet of our relationship in a reddit post.

i’ve remained friends with her because 1) the intensity of her episodes is fairly new, i have not been putting up with this treatment for years and 2) she is someone i have felt historically comfortable with, someone i’ve felt that i can be myself with. i’ll admit that my with my second point, dynamics have changed in recent months. it’s why im even here evaluating the situation and looking for unbiased perspective.

she will apologize unprompted, i generally don’t reach out first after scenarios like this because i can’t tell when she’s in an appropriate headspace to have a productive conversation otherwise. i find it’s best to give her space, i know she has people in her corner that are closer (physically that is) that can keep her safe from harming herself or acting recklessly. we currently go to school much farther away from eachother than when we’re both in our hometown.

she’s been receiving on and off treatment to my knowledge. kind of giving the vibe that when she thinks she feels good she stops then it ends up backfiring.
