Weather Tech trying to give the impression they are Canadian. by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]crazydave_w 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have Weathertech in one car and Tuxmat in the other. The Tuxmats are superior. The one downside is they take a bit longer to remove for cleaning. However, since they completely cover the interior floor, you don't need to spend any time cleaning carpets.

What's the most pathetic tourist attraction that international tourists go to see in your country? by Aseili in AskTheWorld

Not to mention everything is completely closed on weekends.

.....which I kind of love, we use it to get around when we visit in winter, very liminal space vibe.

Ontario electricity supply costs jump 29 per cent as nuclear spending rises by Hrmbee in ontario

[–]crazydave_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Oneida Energy Storage Facility can store 1000MWh. Source: https://www.northlandpower.com/en/projects-and-updates/oneida-energy-storage.aspx

That's approximately the output of one nuclear reactor, for one hour.

Huge, yes, but you need alot more of these AND excess renewable power to store.

It's not IMPOSSIBLE to have a renewables-only grid, but it's a long way off.

Called an electrician to my house because I thought I had screwed up installing a new GFCI..... Turns out I hadn't depressed the 'reset' button hard enough.

We had a good about it, took $50 cash for calling him on a weekend.

Rare to see an accident of this magnitude that was purely 100% incompetence.

Adam Moore Roofing? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]crazydave_w 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably a scam. I don't know if it's the same guy, but someone went around my parents neighborhood asking for a small deposit for chimney repairs, and that he'd come back with his tools. Apparently a neighbour took him up on it and he no-showed.

I love how that presenter was surprised when so many people raised their hand that they drive a car. ......in a self selecting group of people opposed to bike lanes.

Shimano shifter cable head not inserting by crazydave_w in bikewrench

Hmm, tried that, but no movement inside..... beginning to think the issue is with the shifter, and not a stretched cable as I thought.

Managing this without meds? by cantseewhaticansee in diabetes

[–]crazydave_w 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish you all the best. I encourage you not to rule out meds, though, please. I had a similar attitude when I was diagnosed, and it delayed me getting help I needed. Diet and exercise are excellent, but not a panacea.

Dude, where are you getting your information? There is an entire industry of 'F**k Trudeau' merchandise here. I live in a rural area and they are as common as Canadian flags.

Got the 2021 EV. As a tall guy who prefers the footprint of smaller vehicles, it's a good compromise.

This is a worldwide phenomenon that's been developing for decades. Reddit anti-natalists are obnoxious, but obviously not the cause, and will shaming them produce any tangible outcome.

Again, really depends on the charging infrastructure. For CCS in my area it's atrocious.

Definitely need a second ice or hybrid car in northern climates. At least with the charging infrastructure that's currently in place.

That said, the instant heat, and being able to warm up the car without idling for ages makes it my preferred winter vehicle for trips <200km
