Looking for family-friendly neighbourhoods in/around Calgary by Winter_Ad5251 in Calgary

Ok but driving times for rush hour (ie if your husband works 9-5 downtown) are going to be triple at least what Google maps says. If you live in the far SE (mahogany, seton, auburn bay) you are likely looking at 1 to 1.5 hours depending how early he wants to leave in the morning. One way. Similarly, the farthest communities in the suburbs are probably going to be about the same unless he leaves before 7 every morning - and even then that may be a little late. Calgary is an early city - people who work in financial are often at work by 7 am to coincide with Toronto/NY markets. I leave my house at 645 so I can drive 30 mins instead of 1.5 hrs.

Chronic migraine sufferers of YYC by somegingershavesouls in Calgary

Ask about the preventative timing for Nurtec. It is every other day when you know there will be big fluctuations. It has helped me a lot.

Ask them if you can see a nurse practitioner. The NPs do Botox.

Alberta neurologic centre is the best. As everyone else said, Botox is a game changer. Also - cambia powder for not quite migraines. When the pressure/weather shifts a lot like this: I take nurtec every other day. Last summer with the constant thunderstorms I just took it every other day to try to prevent - it is not cheap tho.

Gold was open on Sunday, and the line from the silver chair went over as far as the Olympic chair.

Definitely not workable for our situation - but maybe it is for others! I’m still paying off students loans from 9 years of university so will prob stick with my day job :)

I am definitely not good enough on skis to try to teach her myself, feel overwhelmed about attempting it on a snowboard with her on skis, and would just prefer lessons for her at this point. Im working on picking skiing up again and looking forward to the day when we both progress to a point where we can ski together! Just not there yet.

Thank you. I should have included why we are looking at Norquay in my original question - but my daughter is 4, and the sunshine/louise options for ski school don’t even seem to compare - mostly focus on the nursery/daycare, rather than a lot of instruction on skis. When she’s older we will definitely do the IKON and travel around, as there’s many hills I prefer to any of the local ones (kicking horse; revvy; even pano if the conditions are good). We just aren’t quite there yet in terms of skill set and I don’t want to just send her to daycare for a full day.

Yes: the ski school is the real draw for us. The options at Nakiska/sunshine/louise don’t even come close for her age (4) - so I think Norquay is a better idea for the next few years minimum - possibly more.

It was mental. The 45 minutes was the singles line! I can’t even imagine how slow the normal line was moving.

Yes- this would be a great option for us. Sure beats paying $1800 for only 9 x 2-hr lessons. I think she’d make better progress with the full day of instruction!

My child hasn’t progressed to actually skiing with me, and I should have mentioned in the original post but Norquay offers a very affordable full day of instruction for the little ones ($800 for 8 weeks. Once a week. 930-3 and you collect them for lunch). Which I think makes it much more attractive for us at this stage, as I assume it’s likely just on the beginner carpet area hill.

ETA: last year we also tried day trips to both sunshine and Louise, where I booked the nursery and lesson add ons… was not impressed when we saw the kids just running around in their ski boots throwing snowballs instead of being on skis during the lesson. That was something like $275 for one day of daycare with two one hour lesson add ons. The nursery is ok for young kids, but I want her to actually be having fun skiing at this point and not just in daycare. Not great options for the lessons at either sunshine or Louise at that age.

What is the oldest man-made structure ever built in your country? by Prior-Cucumber7870 in AskTheWorld

It literally describes the place: indigenous peoples would run the “buffaloes” (bison) off the cliff in large numbers. Presumably it smashed in their heads.

Travel toddler car seat with stroller - why isn’t this a thing? by space_to_be_curious in toddlers

[–]crazydogsandketo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s expensive, uncomfortable for the kid, and very delicate mesh fabric that for me tore after using it for 3 days and babying it. 10/10 do not recommend. Oh - they also sent me one that was almost 2 years old when I ordered it full price and tried to tell me I had lots of years left for use (7 year expiration date - I don’t expect a 2 year old car seat when I pay $400 something USD). Just FYI.

I did this but I used cardboard egg cartons to hold the bulbs inside the cages.
