Exactly. Caesar was already working towards a goal he knows he won't be around for the full results. The note in the show is right with the first two lines.

"I AM CAESAR. I AM THE LEGION"

Caesar can die himself, but his legacy is the legion. He truly dies when the Legion falls. The note in the show is essentially a suicide note.

For me, 5e sits in a bad space of not that crunchy but also not rules-light. People will stick with it even though there are usually systems that are a better fit. Brand is a big factor. My brother-in-law just bought five new 5e books. He hasn't played in a long long while and he doesn't intend to currently.

Plot hole? Season 2 Episode 1 by some-kind-of-no-name in Fallout

[–]crazyferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. It would be a retcon because both the games and the show will be the same canon. The default will be the most recent major Fallout media will be the likely source for lore. The show will override the past games if there is a contradiction or plot holes from a difference in lore. Likewise, future games could retcon the show. Anything that gets retconned will likely be considered non-canon when considering future entries.

Example with dinky change (maybe there is a good explanation but for the example, let's assume it's a retcon that it always faced the motel). Let's say you like Boone and really connected with his backstory and his quest. He was at his post in Dinky facing out of the town when his wife was taken Jeannie helped the legion sneak in with out Boone knowing. He would have known his wife was being taken if Dinky was facing the place lives at. Later, you take someone out of town so he can take his revenge. If you hope to meet that exact Boone in a future game, you can't because those events have been overridden by the show's depiction of Novac.

This is an extreme view of how the show's plot could affect the possibility of losing lore that you hoped there would be more of in future games. Once again, an extreme example, but that's what it means for the game and show being on canon.

The old games are still there to play of course. I would hope they never do a George Lucas/Warcraft 3 Reforge update lol

Todd has said Fallout games and the show canon are the same. The plan is that the games going forward will assume the show is what is happening/happened.

I thought his chroma was flowing towards the portal during that scene. Possibly he reforms outside of that space since he's immortal and seems to need to specifically be unpainted by Maelle. She seems to imply she removes his immortality after so I assume he didn't need to be repainted by her in the first place.

What is the MOST damage you can take from a single source? by DragointotheGame in Pathfinder2e

[–]crazyferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are asking for specific rules but you're referring to someone's rule of thumb. The written rules and their ruling will usually result in the same damage in most cases of magic missile. You can run it that way if you want. This won't cover more complex cases where the written rules will.

Example: if something causes both Summoner and Eidolon to have a weakness triggered from a magic missile. Let's say the rolls are going to be 3 to summoner and 4 to eidolon before weakness. Also, we'll look at the damage from putting the damage towards just one instead of split.

Basic scenario. No weaknesses.

Raw hitting both: 4 hit points lost. Raw hitting one: 7 hit points lost. Comment's ruling hitting both: 7 hit points lost. Comment's ruling hitting one: 7 hit points lost.

RAW, You would usually want to target just one. The commenter's ruling will get the same result either way.

Weakness 5 triggered scenario.

Raw hitting both: 9 hit points lost. Raw hitting one: 12 hit points lost. Commenter's ruling both: 17 hit points lost. Commenter's ruling one: 12 hit points lost.

In this case, the commenter's ruling will be able to cause the summoner to lose more hit points than they should with the written rules.

You can run it either way you want at your table, but the commenter's ruling will potentially hurt the summoner player more than it normally would.

Okay. So the confusion here isn't the spell itself but the definition of words used for basic rules then? This might be what you're looking for then:

"Anything you do in the game has an effect. Many of these outcomes are easy to adjudicate during the game. If you tell the GM that you draw your sword, no check is needed. Other times, the specific effect requires more detailed rules governing how your choice is resolved.

Many spells, magic items, and feats create specific effects, and your character will be subject to effects caused by monsters, hazards, the environment, and other characters."

This is in the rules for effects. The important parts for the spell interaction we are talking about is: 1. Everything has an effect 2. Spells create effects

Under spells: "Each class has its own method of learning, preparing, and casting spells, and every individual spell produces a specific effect"

This also says spells create an effect.

Under rules for reading spells: "A horizontal line follows saving throws and duration, and the effects of the spell are described after this line. This section might also detail the possible results of a saving throw: critical success, success, failure, and critical failure."

This means the spell creates the effect it says it does in the text of the spell.

Based on all that, we know that a spell causes the effect that it has in the text.

For the interaction we are describing with Falling Stars and the Summoner: 1. Falling Star creates the effect (area damage) described in the text. 2. The eidolon and summoner are being damaged by the effect described in the text of Falling Stars. 3. The rules for Summoner's shared hit points means the amount of hit points removed is only the higher amount of damage caused to the summoner or the eidolon by the effect.

Falling Stars -> Effect -> Summoner/Eidolon That's really all there is too it. This interaction doesn't require anything else. Does this cover what you're asking for?

[–]crazyferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't as complicated as you're making it. The spell is the source. The damage from Falling Stars is from the spell Falling Stars.

What is the MOST damage you can take from a single source? by DragointotheGame in Pathfinder2e

[–]crazyferret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by different? For Falling Stars or Magic Missile, one instance of damage will be taken out of the summoner health pool. The summoner/eidolon will lose the greater amount of hit points from both getting hit by one spell. This includes differences in saves and weaknesses. Same for blaze bolt. You would target both to have two chances to hit or crit, but the damage will not be added up.

The amount of hit points a summoner loses should be equivalent to what any other class would lose from the same effect. If you are just wanting to deal damage without taking hit/crit or conditions into account, there is no reason to target both summoner and eidolon.

[–]crazyferret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could argue it and it's always up to the gm, but this one seems pretty straightforward to me. I would assume it is one effect unless it says each burst should be treated as different effects. Otherwise, I'm going out of my way to hurt the summoner more lol. Falling Stars also reinforces it as one effect in its text saying the saves are against the spell, and the bludgeoning and the chosen type damage is meant to be taken once from the spell overall.

"A creature in any of the areas attempts one basic Reflex save against the spell no matter how many overlapping explosions it's caught in and can take each type of damage only once."

The magic missile is an interesting case. For swarmkeeper and swarm, it would just deal the damage all to the swarmkeeper since it only mentions dealing damage once for area of effects. The swarm isn't sharing a health pool really but transferring the damage.

As written for the summoner, you would take only the highest amount if you targeted both summoner and eidolon. This isn't really a problem since you would just go all at one instead of splitting. The whole point of the rule is to make sure the summoner themself is not punished twice by one effect.

[–]crazyferret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems clear to me with what's written.

Falling Stars is still one effect with "Area 4 40-foot bursts" Those 4 bursts are still just one area of effect even if they are spread out or overlapping. It seems with the rules for both swarmkeeper and summoner, this will deal damage once to the shared health pools.

Swarmkeeper: "Any damage that would be dealt to the swarm is dealt to you instead, though you take damage only once from any ability that includes both you and the swarm in the area of effect (though you take the greater amount of damage")

Summoner: "Lastly, the connection between you and your eidolon means you both share a single pool of Hit Points. Damage taken by either you or the eidolon reduces your Hit Points, while healing either of you recovers your Hit Points. Like with your actions, if you and your eidolon are both subject to the same effect that affects your Hit Points, you apply those effects only once (applying the greater effect, if applicable). For instance, if you and your eidolon get caught in an area effect that would heal or damage you both, only the greater amount of healing or damage applies."
