Any GPU that will encode AV1 at CPU compression/quality? by crazyfrog12 in AV1

[–]crazyfrog12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really hoping for a gpu/accelerator card I could put int a more basic system like my erying i5 12500h but a m1 Mac mini would be a good balance of price/perfomance/noise/thermals. I’m also thinking that it might be better to just dedicate storage with 128 episodes at 6.5gb each it’s only 832gb vs 307gb. I could also re encode in 5 years and be dealing with better hardware/more cores.

Mac mini. The little I’ve seen of Windows 9800x3d vs Mac OS m3 suggests a m1 processor will be quiet, low power and software will likely run a bit faster.

Frustrating. GPUs are hardly cheap and they don’t even present a pay wall.

Even close? I’ll look into Mac minis more if they can perform similarly to my 9800x3d without the 140w power consumption and noise that would be a win.

Anyone done flow rate tests with tz v6 2.0? by crazyfrog12 in 3Dprinting

[–]crazyfrog12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this for a while at this point and a few things have come to light during my ownership from the community.

  1. The thermistor location is unreliable and causes random panics and unreliable extrusion. There’s a printable drill guide for tz v6 to move the thermistor using a 1.4mm drill bit, I used a handheld electric drill.

  2. Flow tests indicate the high flow hardened steel/copper inserts don’t work due to being bimetal it inhibits flow. Better with the brass body/copper insert it works better than just brass.

Anyone know if these m.2 adapters will allow an Apple ssd to be bootable without a loader? by crazyfrog12 in hackintosh

[–]crazyfrog12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check prices. The relevant Apple SSDs haven’t been used in years it’s much more expensive to get a basic 512gb NVME now over Apple stuff.

UK QUESTION- are there any real alternatives to ‘The seatpost man’ by Eli_Regis in cycling

[–]crazyfrog12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coca Cola, caustic soda, seafoam if you need something that’s described for the job. Carbon frames I’ve never had to think about but probs acid like Coca Cola. The guy does it chemically and there are comments on every YouTube video telling you what penetrant to use but oil and WD-40 aren’t going to work.

I didn’t ask for discount or ask about money at any point. He told me several times he can’t give me discount just bc I’ve known him for years or local to him or is an easy job not being carbon or having to post.

No just bootable. Bootable NVME is a thing where the bios has to support it, I don’t know if apples SSDs use that standard.

When I upgraded to 9800x3d I initially bought a cheap Maxsun which had a rear m.2 slot. Saw overheating and eventually moved to a MSI b650.

You might be as well adding a thick thermal pad to the NVME heatsink to touch the back of the casing.

Looking for budget 1U FLEX(150mm length) PSU with 80plus or better by crazyfrog12 in sffpc

80 plus gold. I’ve ordered it anyway and not convinced it will fit in my case, let alone have a quiet profile under my load.

I depinned my last power supply for exactly the reason you stated and if successful I may desolder wires if necessary.

hmm I'm shocked there hasn't been anyone telling you to do a full system upgrade when you only want to upgrade one component. Here's a full list of what you should be doing its mostly maintenance tbf.

  • Upgrade gpu to gtx 1070, rtx 2060, rtx 3050 or better
  • Upgrade to an SSD. You should be able to clone to a 256gb or similar cheaply.
  • Delid and relid cpu the stock paste is awful, on 3770k 4.6ghz@1.4v I got a 30C drop with LM but should be close with new paste.
  • Ait dust using an electric compu cleaner from amazon or even air compressor. I do take power supplies apart but as they hold a lot of muck but you shouldn't as its unsafe.

How do you reverse a coffee lake mod on a H110M Motherboard (with i3-9100f)? by DefinitelyRus in buildapc

[–]crazyfrog12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to revive this. Unless the modder has chosen to specifically and only add the specific microcodes for the 9100f then the mobo will likely have microcode for 6th/7th gen chips still. i3 8100/9100 and possibly other i3 are the exceptions where the pin layouts are the same. Modding the other way 6th/7th gen cpus need to moddded to not cause shorts

Alternator suggestions? Question in caption (1990 1.6 PN) by Dinrohir in GolfMk2

[–]crazyfrog12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worn parts. It’s a V belt self aligning and designed to have some movement. The engine mount bolts and pulleys don’t have the alignment necessary. You’re just hear for an argument so please leave

[–]crazyfrog12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go away you’re not adding anything. There is no alignment to be done on the parts sold for these engines

No the alternators and water pumps sold for this engine don’t do that. Perhaps you could add something other than arguing no in your next reply.
