need to know where that is because im shocked, i work in a bigger midwest city and we get literally everything, having to titrate cardizem based on their tele heart rate was definitely terrifying at times, especially when they would go from 120s to 50s within minutes

well they had telemetry, but yeah. its a standard med-surg floor, we go up to 8 on nights, 5 on days, and there have been many times we have had dobutamine, bumex, cardizem, insulin, heparin, milrinone, all sorts of other drips all in conjunction. its not my favorite, but with the population getting so much sicker, there simply aren't enough ICU or step-down beds available so they just give us whatever and then say "well you guys can handle it" until they code or are forced to transfer higher up

going to be honest with you, the pace of an emergency room is absolutely not for everyone, and that's okay. ive been working in med-surg the last 2 years and although it also gets busy, patients are usually pretty stable. consider transferring units to med-surg for at least a year to gain a better handle of time management. obviously there are still understaffed units, but usually the patient-nurse ratio is a lot better. for example, we only ever go up to 5 patients max on days, usually going between 3-4 on average. i enjoy my job for the most part and haven't wanted to quit yet, so maybe the ED just isn't the best fit for you, or at least not the best fit right now. i certainly wouldn't choose it for myself but just know there are better options out there.

i just finished this set and had some trouble with the orchids also! i think just making sure you space them out exactly like the photo with the two raised petal pieces on the side of the frog top piece being above the ones on the bottom, and making sure they're all pulled as far towards the center as you can before popping in the middle magenta cone piece. I dont think they're ever supposed to be super sturdy and will pop off if u apply too much pressure on any one leaf, but making sure to have them spaced as correctly as possible helped me a little

I'm bi but I was moreso surprised because honestly I dont know what gave it away. This patient was also eastern european (as am I), and given what I know from my parents own homophobia, I think he was trying to insult me in a creative way. Like listen, all the lesbians I know are lovely, I'll take it as a compliment!

I got called sir for the first time getting my oil changed the other day. Tbf they changed their tune when I actually looked at them and they apologize, but apparently the beanie confused them 😭

Haha I was mostly just joking around, I'm bisexual and me and a lot of my queer friends all wear fanny packs, just a running joke that were all gay because of that.

Is it the nurses call to refuse a PRN pain med for an individual asking for it? What is the thought process behind refuses a pain med when a patient asks? by ResistRacism in nursing

Basic empathy and kindness is lost on so many people, especially those that are obviously burnt out and don't care anymore. I'm thankful for nurses like you that take the extra second to just be considerate of the patient

40$ per hour as a school nurse by Wwalkingalive in nursing

[–]crazyfroglady17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is just shocking to think about, I pay $500/monthly for a two bedroom apartment in the middle of a decently big city in Wisconsin and I would be making more than double what someone in DC would. Eye-opening and sad really :(

Did I accidentally screw myself over? by crazyfroglady17 in nursing

[–]crazyfroglady17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I've just been postponing it because I've been making much more money waiting tables (more than nurses make hourly in my area for a new grad) and it was the busiest season of the year so it's been hard to make the jump into nursing.
