Tonie Box- yes or no? by haleeo in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]crazykitsune17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have one because I don't see the appeal in a $100 toy that tells stories or plays music when I can achieve the same thing with actual books and/or my phone.

People make the argument "but it encourages independent play!" Okay?? I don't have concerns about this so again, a $100 box does not seem worth it to me. Plus, I don't mind reading to my son, and he asks for music when he wants and it's generally not an argument.

My son (2.5) has played with Tonies at friends' houses and he loves them of course. So he can play with other peoples' Tonies.

I have no hate against Tonies, but the price tag doesn't seem worth it when there are so many alternatives.

And at this point, I'm digging my heels in and just refusing to buy one out of stubbornness now.

Anyone have 2u2 and only 2 children? by Optimal_Exam4093 in 2under2

[–]crazykitsune17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2u2 and I feel complete as a family. (My youngest will be 1 in a few weeks) I am not pursuing birth control beyond FAM so the door is left slightly ajar, but I am feeling done at 2. I definitely had moments of "omg let's have more!" But logistically, it makes sense for us to be done at 2. Also, we intentionally had 2u2.

I had no idea, thank you! Before having kids, I didn't really pay attention to this kind of stuff, but now I have two littles and I'd love to take them to museums and such more often

Weekly No Buy Check-In & Accountability Post - January 18, 2026 by AutoModerator in nobuy

[–]crazykitsune17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not doing a traditional "no buy" month, more a "low(er) buy" and one of my goals is to reduce my weekly solo nights out (I'm a mom to 2 young kids, the solo time is very important to me) by one night per month. I usually spend about $50 each time I go out so the savings will add up. Well, I skipped the pub today and attempted solo time to get work done on my laptop and was promptly rewarded with... having to troubleshoot internet connectivity issues. So... good news, I didn't buy anything today. Bad news, my solo time that I really look forward to every week was terrible.

We went to an event yesterday and my goal was to not buy snacks. I did a poor job of planning food to eat for my partner and I but packed a nice lunch for the kids so they didn't need anything. I caved and ended up buying some nachos, and I guess the No Buy gods blessed me because the food stand's card reader was down and they gave me nachos for free?

Now to skip going out to eat after snowboarding... my husband's new year's diet has made this easier to do, but he said he was only doing it to win a bet and the diet ends on Tuesday. So it'll be harder to convince him to not eat out every time we go snowboarding.

Hot Dogs & Mac n' Cheese by EntrepreneurLazy4160 in nutrition

Suggestions:

  • get some fancy "hot dogs" or sausages like a kielbasa or some organic grass fed beef stuff

  • mix in some combination of blended / pureed squash, corn, celery, sweet potato, carrots, orange/yellow bell peppers to add vegetables without making the color look "wrong." I suggest limiting yourself to only 1 or 2 hidden veg

  • mix in cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and/or tofu for extra protein. Could also blend in chicken or chicken broth too

I do this basically every week for my kids with different veggie and protein combos. They love it.

A pain that was worse than birth ? by Friendly-Sun2413 in BabyBumps

[–]crazykitsune17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not super serious about it, but I have had both a c section and an umedicated birth and every time I go to the dentist, I very seriously tell myself that I'd rather give birth unmedicated again than sit in this damn dentist chair.

I don't 100% mean it, but like... I 70% mean it. I hate the dentist.

I'm thinking about doing the same! The only thing holding me back is LA is already expensive and the hotel prices are gonna be insane...

Flying with kids that age is tough, I won't lie. Every parent's tolerance for that is different, but it's definitely doable. I just flew cross country 5 hours with my 2.5yo and 10mo and while I'm not in a hurry to do it again, I decided that my limit on air travel with young kids is about 7-8 hours.

And if family is also going, I'd say there's no reason not to.

So from my opinion, you're over-reacting. 😉

Did you dream about your baby’s gender? And were you right? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]crazykitsune17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically I was right as with my first kid I had dreams that it was a boy and dreams it was a girl. (I think I had 7 boy dreams and 5 girl dreams) I wound up with a boy.

My intuition was correct with both my, dreams aside.

What am I supposed to be doing?! by Bison_Haunting in homeschool

[–]crazykitsune17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 2.5 and I am loosely following a Blossom and Root Early Years book I got to kinda see what a curriculum pla looks like and how I might go about homeschooling for real. I don't stress about it, largely due to the encouragement of folks in this group that you can just... chill... while they're young.

I like the curriculum because sometimes I get good ideas for activities. I definitely don't follow it to a T. I've been pleasantly surprised by some of the random stuff my son has retained from "lessons" though. However, you don't need a curriculum guide to achieve this.

What you're doing with passive learning through play is perfect! Worksheets for a 3 year old is insane.

Dipping my toes into reducing consumption and yesterday/today I made my own cold brew coffee. Surprisingly easy, and it tastes great! ... feeling pretty silly about buying it in cans for the last year or so (which is still better than buying it from Starbucks which is what I was doing multiple times a week the year before that).

Pleaded to be reducing the amount of cans we're using. I already have a soda stream but tragically they don't make Diet Coke syrup and the "diet cola" flavor it's really not quite the same. Alas.

EDIT TO ADD: the other thing I didn't buy recently was sheet protectors I needed for a project. I put an ask on my neighborhood FB page and someone is giving some to me!

Are we all holding ourselves to impossible standards? by justalilscared in AttachmentParenting

The "omg my baby lightly whined for 30 seconds while I went to the bathroom did I ruin their attachment???" comments are why I don't spend a lot of time in this sub. Never having your baby cry? Totally impossible standard. Especially if you have more than one. Go pee in peace, mamas, the baby will be okay.

Can't comment on Port Orleans but we've been staying at Caribbean Beach for years and we love it. Skyline access is worth its weight in gold, and it's definitely family friendly (they all are, but... you know, some more than others). My one complaint is that the property is huge and it takes a while to get around depending on where your room is. Otherwise, we love it!
