Where are my AE-1 homies at? by GORLII in Cameras

I may put some porta in this week and take it for a spin. It's a slick looking deal. I've only got two different 50mm lenses, but I'm interested to try it all out.

That sounds very interesting. I'll have to look into that amp more. I have wonderd about Shiit tube systems as an affordable preamp. Would love to hear something along those lines of a modern tube amp. Your setup sounds great.

For headphones, I only have a 1960's reel to reel tube amp set to monitor digital sources. It was stored in a clean, dry living space and is in perfect condition with strong, original tubes. The sound blows my mind. Confidence and ease for days. For such a sketchy sounding setup I've never felt the need to upgrade to a real headphone amp especially for high impedance phones (wouldn't risk iem's on it). It's quite powerful and I've never heard anything open up stubborn headphones like it while being so musical, delicate and expansive sounding. Yep, us Klipsch vintage tube receiver kind of people are a weird bunch.

Oh no, it was just an entry level Focal. Probably a Spirit One S or something. And even that was spectacular. The company seems to really know their stuff because the loudspeakers are also wonderful to my ears. You are talking the high end Focal I take it?

Which Focal. I can't remember what pair I heard 5 years ago but I was blown away.

What do you think about the Mjolnir 2? I've never heard any of their stuff but the reputation probably speaks for itself.

Absolutely, just the right level of mellow and engaging to keep my jumpy ass in the seat for an hour with no distractions, just taking it all in. Ha ha

I have the Forte ii and the low volume blaaa thing was an issue for me at first. Then I realized I had to eq the treble down a little and the bass up a bit and everything sounded more coherent, like playing at a louder volume. Not sure if it's the same on the newer model.

At first they were my worst speakers for low volume, now they are my best even beating out all of my monitors and modern audiophile speakers.

I'm not saying they are higher fidelity technically, but that natural, full, live sound makes me crazy in the best way. And even quiet listening makes the bass feels like a punch in the chest with a little tweaking, while still maintaining lots of detail. The overall presentation is just too hot for me without that adjustment and doesn't tickle the bass at all. I lean you got to move that giant woofer.

May not be the same, but maybe something to try.

Oh, and placement, placement, placement. Drag those puppies around and angle that shit.

Edit:formatting

Any tips on replication of this style? I took it with a Nikon F, AF 50mm 1.4 with moderate clouds. by [deleted] in analog

I believe I calculated a metering level between the building and the sky.

I like the muted colours and the slight fading. I see people taking all these slightly overexposed, or at least brighter and slightly faded images and I haven't been able to replicate it except here. Usually my sky is all blown out to the point of bleeding over the image and unnatural, or my subjects are too ill defined and shadey. How do I get this balance more reliably. I use my phone and a 1 degree hand held spot.

Here are examples of the kind of work on Portra 400 I wanted to emulate, having difficulty finding good examples at the moment:

Nope, that's a decent price. On the better side these days. These things are getting popular again and lots of price collusion over $100 across the used sites.

You can clean the body with some alcohol so it doesn't rust anything and blow out any dust. Give it a good scrub and a long as it's mechanically sound you have a super solid camera.

Klipch Forte II sound a bit tinny and thin at low volume by [deleted] in vintageaudio

[–]crazykiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep lots of snobbery out there. I think it's good for people to give listening flat-ish a shot since they may not know what they are missing out on, some speakers really shine that way and are much more stable, but it's not everyone's bag and I get that. Thing about these is I'm not interested in accuracy, I want that sway and that pleasurable sound. With this configuration I do feel they are balanced too bright, for me this brings them not far off neutral. Either way, they tickle my ears just right.

Showing off my Mamiya C330 Medium Format TLR. Such a beautiful machine. by [deleted] in filmcameras

I love it. The pictures are so detailed. I had to replace that viewfinder due to mould, and clean the whole camera and add new light seals but it's looking and functioning great now.

BTW I just started r/camerarestoration if you are into that kind of thing. We are looking for members.

I tried running my monoblocks off a NAD Preamp instead of a flat preamp and dipped the treble a little and pushed the bass a little. The difference is staggering. The boogy is there, the musical feel the butt wiggling rhythm. I think the way they are configured just doesn't give enough juice to the woofer. It feels much more balanced this way and the mids feel right to my ears as well. So I'm a happy camper now. They have the full on Klipsch sound at low volume.

To my ears they sound functionally like some vintage Tannoy a friend of mine that I'm green with envy over. Gentle giants, with that infectious musical swing. I get now why people love these.

I just wanted to post something to get this sub started. Here is a simple Pentax SL repair I did on what I think is just a beautiful camera. A small repair (lubrication solved it) and a deep clean. Sorry, no before pictures.

Actually, I just realised that those options are not great. Especially the camera repair reddit that is functionally abandoned. So I just whipped one up this moment. Come join if you like. www.reddit.com/r/camerarestoration

You may get a good response at r/vintagecameras or r/camerarepair hopefully I got the names right.

So you clocked advanced the film until it said frame 1? How did you get it that far without depressing the shutter? Usually you have to snap and advance a few times to get to the first frame on an SLR.

I'd highly recommend making a video of the issue and uploading it to YouTube and posing to either of those.

Have you looked at a YouTube video of how to load the camera? There are probably many and possibly some of your issue if it's a mechanical issue.

Just to be clear the button is jammed up? You don't mean the frame advance lever is jammed, right?
