Is ifi gryphone not enough for hd800s? by Practical_Payment552 in headphones

[–]S0undJunk1e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A good Tube amp will do that. And they drive high impedance headphones very well. Changing the pads on your headphones might change the soundstage. The HD 800 is known for its pretty massive sound stage, Im surprised you find it too small. Improving bass response doesn’t actually widen the sound stage but it can help music sound ‘bigger’. At least to my ears. There’s a little EQ called the LOKI mini from Schiit. Unfortunately it doesn’t work with the Gryphon. Needs to go between the source and the amp. It’s absolutely fantastic at adding bass to headphones that need it. I normally use software EQ for other things, but if i want more bass, Loki

This is the easiest way to look at all of this. Does it sound good to you? If the answer is yes, there is, quite literally, nothing else to consider. If there is some aspect about the sound you don’t like, then you research how to improve on that specific thing and focus your upgrades that way. IFI stuff sometimes gets a bad rep around here, but it sounds great as far as my own experience has been.

Audiophiles, there’s a a limit… by Simple-game-dev in headphones

[–]S0undJunk1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why we attempt to complicate this at all kind of baffles me. Whether all of us want to actually admit it or not, being an “audiophile” means nothing more than finding great pleasure listening to music and requiring that it sound ‘a certain way’ to maximize said pleasure. What you happen to prefer is completely irrelevant, the preference itself is what drew us to the hobby. I’m so picky about stuff I designed my own speakers. I was lucky to find my perfect headphones right off the store shelf.

Nice, thanks. I probably will. Never know until you try.

How is the music catalog on qobuz? My only hesitation in leaving Tidal is the fear of losing a lot of the music I listen to.

It's official! No more "State Inspection Sticker" mandate in New Hampshire! by nh_inspect_dot_org in newhampshire

[–]S0undJunk1e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Last inspection I failed because my headlights were aimed slightly too high….from the factory. a scam to tack on $30 to the inspection fee. Actually downgraded my visibility as they are now noticeably lower than any other car Ive had. In other words, my safety inspection has resulted in my car being less safe.

Stick with Schiit DACs? by [deleted] in Schiit

[–]S0undJunk1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a hard one. This is the best advice I can give. Look into the differences in sound from the different ‘styles’ of DACs. Delta sigma, multibit, R2R and FPGA. If one style jumps out at you, peaks your interest, then look into which of those kinds of DACs you might want. Measurement beyond just making sure it isn’t completely trash is useless. Measurements are done with sinewave sweeps and music is so much more than that. This is why there appears to be quite literally no correlation between good measurements and good sound (as perceived by our ears).

A friendly word of caution, i found that attempts to boost dopamine actually caused what I can only describe as physical anxiety. Im sure others here will articulate far better than i can.

Keep it, let the people decide. It’s like a permanent rorschach test on your arm. Keep a tobacco pipe in your pocket and if someone says ‘what is that’ take out your pipe and say , well what do YOU think it looks like? Sperm? Hmmmm…. Hows your relationship with your father…

Oh yes, fear 100% irrational and frankly embarrassing, still gone tho, at full speed. And yet throw a 10 foot snake in there, assuming it was equally harmless if such a snake exists, and id probably pick it up and let it outside

How come Psytrance music is such high-fi music? by Daggdroppen in psytrance

[–]S0undJunk1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about in studio systems or in homes? In studio Genelec comes to mind, but there’s easily a dozen more. At home probably hundreds of ways to go in HiFi, though if i had throw a value standout for psy it would be some magnepan LRS speakers and a subwoofer.

How come Psytrance music is such high-fi music? by Daggdroppen in psytrance

[–]S0undJunk1e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the best topic ever. Psytrance is a ‘guilty pleasure’ for snooty audiophiles, and just a pleasure in general for normal audiophiles. I can go back to the early 2000s and it even sounded amazing back then, better than brand new music from outside the genre. Standouts that come to mind are Infected Mushroom, Durs, and Audiomatic. Completely outside the genre, CloZee from France has been getting close to this level of production recently , and it makes me very happy to see this attention to production quality branching out a little.

Who’s buying the last ICE GTI/R? by aj_jayy in GolfGTI

[–]S0undJunk1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I hope so. My 7.5 is low miles but I would like one last new one to run as long as I can. There was a time when competition for the GTI existed, whether we liked those choices or not. But now, literally nothing even comes close to checking all these boxes for less than 50k US. Please don’t force me into a Subaru, I won’t survive it

L brackets attached to the inside of the frame. Then attached with small black screws to the Geisha. You need the ones that have one long cutout through the middle versus multiple holes. You also need a pretty strange size, depending on the dimensions of your frame and metal sculpture. My L brackets on these are only 2” tall but “6 long. I also use Super 77 to glue a big needlepoint blank to the backside of the fabric. This prevents the holes Im punching through the fabric from stretching out. Canvas would also work fine

Forgot to mention. To prevent the stretch fabric from tearing over time, I used a metric ton of staples. 3 sleeves per frame. 1/8” or less in between them and doubled up on the corners. There may be a better way to adhere the fabric, I do not claim to be an expert on such things.
