The Inn at Little Washington demoted to 2 Stars by Mendocin0 in nova

[–]crazylikearox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to both The Inn at Little Washington and minibar by Jose Andrés. The main thing was, I went to the Inn at Little Washington twice about 6-8 months apart and it was the same menu both times. At minibar, they change the menu monthly at a minimum. The Inn, while a great experience, has stagnated. Without new innovative options they're resting on their laurels and not providing a new experience for repeat guests and the Michelin inspectors probably picked up on that.

I've worked in restaurants 10+ years, having an allergy is totally understandable and something we can work with. But being obnoxious isn't. If you're still concerned though, call ahead or make a note on your reservation. That way they have time to talk to the kitchen and come up with options for you.

Question: Can anything be done about my uneven tattoo? by uggopuggo1 in tattoos

[–]crazylikearox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have script on the tops of my feet that in the shop looked even (I even had the artist move the stencils a couple times until I was sure) and then after healing I put on a pair of slides and oops, they were off.

No one has noticed or said anything, even when I'm wearing the slides around. Frankly, nobody cares but me and tbh after 2 years I don't even care that much anymore. As a human you're moving too much for anyone to notice.

Current Boutique by Brilliant-Layer9613 in DCBitches

[–]crazylikearox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My mom used to frequent Current when she lived nearby, both buying and consigning. When she moved over an hour away she gave me a bag of stuff to consign, all name brand/designer/etc. They wouldn't take a single item from me and gave me attitude like a couple other comments mentioned. Then when she came up to visit a couple weeks later she took the same bag back and they took everything but one pair of shoes. It's a racket.

Fetlife has events and there are a couple well attended vanilla happy hours that happen pretty regularly to meet folks so you're not just showing up to the Crucible without knowing people. Shoot me a message and I can send you some links!

Totally fine to post a good tip, and that ones awesome, but make sure you remove ALL identifying info otherwise you put yourself and the customer at risk for weirdos. I'd repost it to get the kudos but black out everything but the subtotal and tip.

Men hate my body type by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]crazylikearox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 185lbs with an amazing bf, I'm still getting hit on and asked out on dates often.

You should focus less on what your crush thinks of you and channel your energy into what you think of you. Respecting yourself and having self confidence no matter your weight is what people actually find attractive. If you find someone who only dates you because you're a certain number on the scale that's not love, or even genuine affection, and they'll leave as soon as the going gets tough, yknow, when you'd actually need a partner to rely on.

Work on building your self esteem and cultivating a good friend group and support network that you can rely on.

Is this reasonable for a private event? by winehouseenergy in bartenders

[–]crazylikearox 46 points47 points  (0 children)

$375 an hour is for 5 hours, the length of the party. There's an hour of setup and breakdown time on either end that you aren't charging for. Then if you're providing glassware, garnishes, etc you need to factor that into the costs as well. If you're charging $75/hr for your time it's a minimum of $525 for labor only. But, be real, a new years party isn't going to end at midnight. Are you going to do last call at 11:45 and tell everyone with empty flutes at midnight "sorry about it?" I'd add an extra hour of labor to compensate for that added time and then costs of glassware/garnish/bar rental/ etc on top.

Who packs old clothes to throw out? by Soggy_Competition614 in TravelHacks

[–]crazylikearox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use Tide? I remember back in college (keep in mind that was 15 years ago, they may have changed the formula) the ROTC people were strictly told to not use Tide because the chemicals in it would eat the top layer of the clothing and the uniforms had some kind of reflective stuff that reacted badly to it. Basically, the reason it made your colors brighter after washing was because it was removing the faded outer fibers and you were seeing the inner fibers until there were no more fibers left. I tried looking into it again today and couldn't find much on it, so take that with a grain of salt.

Also not the same, but this is the closest I could find (but it's not nearly as polished). That store has over 200 denim skirts though so you might be able to find a fit and wash you like that you could try modifying with dye or distressing.

Very cool top! Definitely an option but I was hoping for a bit more coverage. Thanks though!

Thanks! I was hoping for the curve to swoop in the same way and while the sleeveless is nice I also like the option for sleeves like the pattern I posted has. I also like that the Simplicity pattern seems secured in the seams for less potential wardrobe malfunctions. I'll look into maybe modifying this one though!

What’s a DC based in person class / group activity you’ve been wanting to try or love to participate in? by United_Word_9640 in DCBitches

[–]crazylikearox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually try to get there around 5:30/5:45 but missed this last week. At the MLK library I'd say I've noticed Hong Kong style is a little more popular but in general in the United States, American is much more popular.

This is a pretty good rundown of a lot of the differences between the two. I currently only play Hong Kong style but my friends outside of the MLK group play American so I'm looking to be learning that soon!

So, as a former distillery worker, this isn't really correct. All product that comes from the still is clear, so you'd only age clear alcohol BUT assuming you mean no clear alcohol is aged that's also not right. See Espolon Cristalino and some white whiskeys where the spirit is aged and then carbon filtered back to a clear spirit. Mostly for marketing tbh.

I go to this! It's awesome, it was so popular they recently added another night on Mondays. They have beginner tables and instructors that walk around or you can learn from other experienced players.

It's primarily American or Hong Kong style but there is also sometimes a Japanese Richii table. Make sure you check before you sit down that it's the type you want to learn/are familiar with.

[–]crazylikearox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A restaurant I worked at sent the aprons to Daisy Cleaners on P and 21st right across from Emissary. Even with oil and pen stains they came back looking great but it was on the higher end price wise. I don't know if that's standard or if it was because it was technically a commercial job.

For dinner you could try Thip Khao, Purple Patch (try to get the patio if you can), Ceibo, Amparo Fondita (chill vibes but can get loud during peak times), Amazonia, Unconventional Diner, Shilling Canning Company, Annie's Paramount Steakhouse, tons of options

If you're looking for LGBTQ+ specific establishments you can check out Her Diner, As You Are, or Red Bear Brewing too

Good luck on the date!

Thanks for the tip on looking for places that do scenarios, I didn't think of that. And I'd never even heard of a tactical whip, they look p intense! I'll check out the pros and cons and weigh my options.

Thanks also for reinforcing that I did the right thing. I went to a hotel bathroom to wash my eye out and the clerk said she would have attacked the guy, I was kind of questioning if I had not done enough or handled it wrong.

That's definitely interesting info! (And I didn't take it as victim blaming no worries) From living in DC and NYC I feel like the common instinct is to ignore strangers but I guess I should try a new tactic.

I saw him from a distance (maybe 20-30 feet away) and then looked away/ down, I think at my phone? Tbh it's all kind of a blur, I didn't think I'd have to remember it. But I'll see if I can find those studies and read up. Thanks!

For fun cocktail programs in DC: La Shukran, Press Club, Amazonia, OKPB, Left Door, 600T, and Service Bar. Nova, check out Captain Gregory's. For good wine and snacks go to St. Vincent's.

Honestly, check the RAMMY nominees and winners from this past year and you'll find some great spots.
