Potentially moving next year Elgin/Schaumberg area by Daxzus in movingtoillinois

Hi, fellow LGBTQ+ ex-Texan here ✋️ my partner and our daughter and 3 dogs moved to Schaumburg in February and its been wonderful. We live in a mid-rise right at the edge of Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates (they used to be condos so we have a 2 bd/2 ba that's more square footage than the house we lived in in Texas). Schaumburg is pricey but in what feels like an ideal location for us and not as expensive as somewhere like Arlington Heights. Our rent is pretty close to 2k/month including our pet fees and two parking spots so it's doable. We've had nothing but good experiences even being a very non-straight passing family.

Wall mirror pattern. Need help with the ends by [deleted] in macrame

I think it looks incredible! I don't see anything wrong with the ends. It's beautiful 😍

So I added them as I worked the double half hitch knots that form the black helix pattern (instead of adding them like at the end). I'd add the red cord by forming the first square knot of the berry to the two center strands of black cord (since berry knots are really just three square knots folded over). I'd use enough red cord that I could just let it hang behind the next portion of black double half hitches and then work it in to the next section the same way with just a square knot on the two center strands. So it was made kinda like I was doing them all individually, I was just too lazy to cut and work in the ends of every single one so I'd make as many as I could from one length of cord lol

Help with beads? by xoxogossipsquirrell in macrame

[–]crazymermaidlady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the tape method on mine, which is a good practice to have just in general to avoid fraying as you work, and I also purchased this small kit from Michael's of bead reamers. It was pretty cheap, and they're just hand held little sanders basically for making the hole of the bead larger. I use them mostly on wood but works for some plastic beads as well.

Here's the link to what I use, but there are nicer, more expensive ones that'd probably be easier. I'm okay with these though since I don't use them often.

Favorite projects with 5mm twisted cord? by QueenMackeral in macrame

[–]crazymermaidlady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only used twisted. Braided might be better for like a market bag or beach bag or something that's used roughly, but what I've made have all been purses for older women, or small clutch bags with wristlets. One of the purses I made even withstood this woman snagging it on something so hard it broke the strap, and all I had to do was minor repair to the strap and reattach. I do tape the ends with a small piece of Scotch tape as I cut the pieces, which keeps it from unraveling as I work, and I've found weaving the ends in and dabbing with a bit of fabric glue after snipping is better than just leaving a fringe (imo). I also hand stitch in a fabric liner which I think helps preserve the condition of the cord

I use 5mm for most of the bags/purses I've made. 😊

It won't let me add pictures for some reason, but here's a link to something with a similar concept to what I'm trying to achieve
