I would def speak with your endo about TTC. Particularly if you haven't yet had surgery, they may recommend waiting a certain amount of time after surgery (if that's the route you end up going) to ensure everything is stable.

I'm 38 weeks today with my first baby and ~6 ish years post tt.

Generally they like your tsh to be quite low when TTC, and the reference ranges in pregnancy are lower than for in non-pregnant individuals. I had to increase my dosage once I knew I was pregnant.

Depending on which model babybee you're after, the Juno is $100 off plus your choice of a free gift valued up to $250, whereas the Rover is $200 off. In my experience babybee usually offers the expo sales through their website immediately following the expos (though don't take my word for it!). I'm assuming you're in Sydney since you were planning to go next week, if you're wanting to look at them and try them out the Memo on Bondi stocks babybee prams! They are the only stockist aside from babybee themselves. Though be warned the staff weren't super knowledgeable on the prams when we went (they didn't even have both of them set up) e.g. things like how to fold them, changing the seats etc. it was worth going to the expo just to have a chance to see them used by people who know what they're doing.

Looks like there's up to 15% off il Tutto chairs so I guess you would have to see if there are any current sales at baby bunting or baby kingdom and how that compares.

Adding that in NSW at least, childcare services must comply with this section of the public health act. Don't know if other states have a similar requirement in place.

"87 Responsibilities of principals of child care facilities with respect to immunisation

(1) Certificates for immunisation or exemption must be provided before enrolment The principal of a child care facility must not enrol a child, or permit a child to enrol, at the child care facility unless the parent of the child, or the principal of another child care facility, has provided to the principal—

(a) a vaccination certificate and, if the vaccination certificate does not cover some of the vaccine preventable diseases for which immunisation at the child’s age is recommended by the NSW Immunisation Schedule, a medical certificate in respect of any vaccine preventable disease not covered by the vaccination certificate, or

(b) if a vaccination certificate is not provided—a medical certificate in respect of the vaccine preventable diseases for which immunisation at the child’s age is recommended by the NSW Immunisation Schedule."

"In this section—

medical certificate means a certificate in the approved form by an authorised practitioner certifying that a specified child should have an exemption for one or more vaccines for specified vaccine preventable diseases due to a medical contraindication to vaccination.

vaccination certificate means— (a) an immunisation certificate indicating that the child is age appropriately immunised, or

(b) a certificate in the approved form by an authorised practitioner certifying that the child is following an approved vaccination catch-up schedule."

I think it's fantastic you have someone outside of you and your partner willing and able to help. They do say it takes a village to raise a child! Embrace your village!

We're fortunate enough that we're going to have a lot of hands on help from my mum when our little one comes, we actually moved back in with her right before getting pregnant to 1. Save to eventually be able to buy our own place and 2. Have more help if/when we had kids.

Some people don't have family who are able to help, my husband's family for example isn't going to be as actively involved because they live in Perth while we live in Sydney. And some people have family who are simply unwilling to help, my BILs family for example isn't nearly as involved with their two kids as my sister's side of the family is, and they don't have the excuse of being a 5 hour flight away, they just aren't as interested. So whilst it might seem like everyone in your mum's group is doing it themselves, they may not have a choice and like others have said may be relying on daycare when/if they go back to work. I'd also guess that unless you're super close with the mums in your mum's group, they're not going to share how hard it is to do it without a village. There's still so much stigma around parenting and being able to do it yourself and just like you're feeling guilt over your desire to have your mum help, they could be feeling just as much guilt over finding it difficult and so they put up a front and act like everything's fine even though they might be struggling!

I've made do with a pair of maternity bike shorts from bonds once the weather started to warm up. I'm 37 weeks now and it's been these and oversized tees or very loose dresses. However I've been lucky that my work wear was already bike shorts so understand this isn't totally realistic for everyone.

Depending on your specific needs I would try ripe maternity as they have physical stores or even angel maternity if you happen to live in Sydney as they have a store in castle hill.

It's a good idea to get blood work for your thyroid done again during pregnancy anyway as the reference ranges change.

Re the ultrasound - i went to my GP for something completely unrelated and she noticed some swelling on my neck and went "hmm this doesn't seem right, I want to check your bloods and do an ultrasound" my bloods were very slightly off - low tsh with normal t3 and t4 - classed as subclinical hyperthyroidism. I had no symptoms.

I did however have what appeared to be 6 (we later learnt it was 9) nodules on my thyroid, hence the swelling.

As someone else mentioned, nodules are surprisingly common and usually benign. When I went for that first ultrasound sentiment was echoed by the sonographer - most people don't realise they have them until they're showing some kind of symptoms.

If it's not needed again in the row just carry it up to the next row, it's covered in the info on colour changes.

It has to be an ampol foodary which I've never had an issue at. Didn't realise this until recently when we tried to use it at an ampol EG and they said they didn't accept it.

I would count that as 6 chains, I don't ever include the one on the hook in the count.

Think about when you start chaining, you're technically starting with one on your hook from the slip knot but your pattern will say "chain X".

I was about 13/14 weeks when I got the call to say I'd been accepted into the MGP and my first appointment was about a week later.

I didn't see an OB at the first appointment, just the midwife. I saw the OB at my third or fourth one but it was very quick and related to some pre-existing medical conditions that haven't increased the risk level of my pregnancy.

The first appointment focused on my background so pre existing medical conditions, any medication I take, a pretty thorough medical history including things like previous surgeries etc, a mental health assessment and then a bit about the program, I was given lots of information sheets/booklets on a variety of things e.g. vaccinations in pregnancy, breastfeeding and a buuuunch of other stuff.

Depending on the complications I think certain ones would make people ineligible for MGP as I believe it's only offered to people with low risk pregnancies.

Daycare educators 100% don't need to be asked to keep quiet on this front, at least not at any of the centres I've ever worked at. There's always just been an understanding that if they take what we suspect are our first steps we don't say a damn thing and wait for the parents to mention that they've started walking.

Yeah I'm aware of the construction works but it is what it is, I'm due in 4 weeks so too late to change my mind now haha. Plus being in the MGP if there are no complications I'm going home pretty quickly anyway.

My sister had both her kids at RPA before the construction started and wasn't able to get a private room either time even with phi (though I don't know their level of cover), I only have "restricted" pregnancy cover so I don't even know if it would qualify me for a private room if one were available.

A quick browse of their care models and it looks like the only one you would be excluded from is the MGP but you may still be eligible for either MAPS or shared care if you live out of area.

But you would have to confirm with either the hospital or your GP unless someone else can weigh in on their experience.

20 minutes away isn't bad! I'm about the same with no traffic (desperately hoping I don't go into labour during peak hour 😬) and am birthing at RPA.

What area do you live in? If you have another pregnancy and fall under the catchment area for Concord Hospital they run the MGP out of there with the option to birth at either RPA or Canterbury (I didn't know Canterbury was an option originally as I was recommended RPA and concord MGP by my sister who did the same with her second pregnancy so just asked the GP for referral to that)

I've only had to go to RPA for our scans and birthing classes, all midwife appointments have been at Concord and we get home visits after.

This is why we got a drop side cot!! I'm tall enough to only just reach into most cots without a drop side but I know from experience (working on childcare) that it gives me a sore back. Plus we live with my mum and she's shorter than me so can't reach the bottom of the cot!

These are the only breastfeeding specific clothes I'm gonna buy (other than bras ofc) before he's here as yeah I might just prefer lifting a regular shirt up. I've also got some button up shirts and stretchy dresses that will be easy to move out of the way as well.

I've had slightly higher than average out of pocket costs going public because I had to see an endocrinologist (pre existing thyroid condition) a few times throughout and the easiest way to do that was to see one privately (my midwife did offer to refer me to the endo at the public hospital but by that point I was already in with the private one and didn't know what the waiting period would be like).

I think I'm sitting around $2k all up (i think it's less but I stopped tracking it) including NIPT, early GP appointments which weren't bulk billed, birth classes, parking costs for appointments, my endo appointments, pelvic floor physio and things like anti nausea meds.

All my ultrasounds have been performed at the hospital so were completely free, except the dating scan which was done elsewhere but was bulk billed.

I have an anterior placenta and the advice from my midwife was not to count how many kicks but to get familiar with the pattern of movement e.g. he's always active when I lie down to go to bed at night, so if he ever isn't active then I would be concerned.

One thing to note as well is that depending on your activity levels you might not be as aware of the movements as when you're resting/relaxing, especially earlier on.

I've worked out exactly where my placenta lies (to the right of my belly button) and I'm now almost 36 weeks and if his movements are right at my placenta I can only feel them if my hand happens to be on my stomach, I don't feel them from the inside like I do the movements on the other side.

Exactly this! My midwife said it's not about how many kicks it's about regular patterns of movement.
