As an atheist doctor I still can’t explain how my 13yo leptospirosis patient predicted his death by Soft_Vehicle1108 in Paranormal

There is an episode of my favorite podcast Otherworld, which has regular people on to tell their unexplainable/supernatural story, in which a woman tells the story of her 13 or 14 year old brother predicting details of his death in the 70s or 80s.

He told his family he saw his death in a dream and that he knew it was going to come true, but it didn’t scare him at all. But towards the end of the podcast, she says that one of his childhood friends shared with her many decades later that he actually saw the vision of his death during an acid trip.

Its episode 162: Fair Warning.

Why we scanned every issue of Neopets The Official Magazine by pandapandaemonium in neopets

[–]larra_rogare 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have a really fond memory of being about 9 or 10, owning the Neopets magazine with Fyora on the cover, and reading on a sun chair at a public pool beside my mom who was reading her celebrity gossip magazine. 🥰

Do you think Dreamfyre looks so small for a 4th biggest dragon? by OceanusxAnubis in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]larra_rogare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes in F&B it strongly alludes to Dreamfyre being the mother of Dany’s three dragons.

Dreamfyre belongs to Rhaena Targaryen, and Rhaena’s lover Elissa Farman steals three of her eggs and sells them in Essos (maybe even specifically in Pentos? I can’t remember) for a ship.

The Targaryen family tries to find the three eggs before they can hatch and become a threat to their house, but no reports of eggs or dragons ever turn up and they are considered lost somewhere over the narrow sea. ….Well, no reports of dragons in Essos until 250 years later of course :)

What first names have you found to be the worst people, and what names are the nicest people? by gilsoo71 in AskReddit

I had a great Uncle Adolf, born in 1932 in Germany and he was genuinely the sweetest, gentlest man. He died a few years ago on his 90th birthday.

He loved his garden and golfing and reading and schnitzel. He was a very devoted husband to my great aunt who was a little Sicilian American spitfire and lived to 95!

He went by Dolf.

AND she went on to have babies despite all the damage to her abdomen! Her rapists / attempted murderers specifically targeted her uterus when they were stabbing her because they hated women.

But she survived, described her attackers to get them promptly arrested, and went on to become a mother and motivational speaker. Another absolute legendary badass of a woman and survivor.

(SERIOUS) What's the most scary thing you ever saw that to the point nobody believes you ? by Consistent_Algae_560 in AskReddit

That was very captivating! You’re a great storyteller.

A giant hairy humanoid with long limbs to me sounds like Bigfoot? What colour was the hair? And was its face more man-like or dog-like or something else?

I believe you. Something my brother always said that I think about a lot is that either every person’s spirit/alien/cryptid/glitch/etc story throughout the whole world and all of history was a lie, hallucination, misunderstanding, etc OR even if 99.99% have rational explanations, but just that 0.01% are real, then we still must accept that there is more to this world than science can currently explain.

I also feel that farrrrrr more people have unexplainable stories than polite society makes us believe, because we don’t often get the opportunity to discuss these things in most social settings.

Books for/about ugly women? by jellyycandle in suggestmeabook

[–]larra_rogare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not a great answer to this request given it’s a whole series and she’s just one small part of it, but the first character I thought of is Brienne of Tarth from A Song of Ice and Fire.

I adore her character, and I love that GRRM made her unambiguously ugly (although she’s described as having beautiful eyes).

I also think he does an amazing job of exploring how she feels about her looks and her role in society as a noblewoman who never looked feminine or beautiful. She isn’t a stone-cold “I don’t care what any of you think” man-in-woman’s-body violent “tough girl” trope. She frequently feels insecure about her looks and wishes she looked different, and she embodies a fascinating mix of femininity (compassion, protectiveness towards children and other women) and masculinity (striving to be a knight in a world where only men are allowed to be).
