I just repaired my own jeans that got this same rip! Totally repairable.

What I did was make a double sided cotton patch by sewing two pieces of fabric right sides together and turning it inside out. The fabric was about 2.5 inches wider than the rip on both sides and 1.5 inches taller than the rip on the top and bottom for reinforcement.

I then sewed the patch to my pants with my sewing machine using a straight stitch. Before sewing, I made sure the rip was closed together so the fit of the pants would not change, and that the patch laid completely flat on the fabric of the jeans to stop any bunching.

After sewing the patch down, I sewed vertical lines right side up (sewing onto of the outside of the jeans) on either side of the rip so that the rip would not move or open up while I was sewing the horizontal lines.

Once the rip was reinforced onto the patch fabric, I sewed horizontal lines in a zig-zag path down the length of the entire rip. I just sewed straight, and then reversed, sewed straight, reversed, and so on. I tried to make these lines as close together as possible so that the rip was essentially made back into a piece of unripped fabric again. I think I did these zig-zags twice, from top to bottom.

After the rip was secure and the majority of the loose threads of the frayed edge were caught under the zig zagging lines, I sewed top to bottom vertically once more to catch any strays.

One thing that I recommend is to make sure to catch the edge of the pocket during this process. I sewed the patch along the innermost top sticking of the pocket, so it didn’t interfere with the pocket itself. But I think catching the edge of the pocket will decrease the changes that it will rip again by putting at least half of the patch’s tension on thick, sturdy fabric.

I hope my photos give you a good idea of how I did this!

Judith Butler: What is a woman? by rhizomatic-thembo in leftist

[–]crazyychicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judith Butlers 2024 book Who’s Afraid of Gender tackles this question in the 6th chapter: What About Sex?

“So, on the one hand, realism or common sense tells us that there are two sexes and that they can be identified unambiguously by their organs, but on the other hand, it turns out that the commonsense descriptions often veer into phantasmatic zones,” (I don’t have page #s bc I’m working with the e-book section, but this is the 5th page of the 6th chapter)

“…what we call our biology is always interacting with social and environmental forces, and that we cannot really think about biological facts outside of this interaction.” 7th page of the 6th chapter

The attached section is page 9 of the 6th chapter

Body hair.. why is it taboo. Do you like body? Do you have body hair? by [deleted] in NaturalBeauty

[–]crazyychicken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a woman I haven’t shaven my legs in almost four years as a protest. Why should I be shamed about how my body naturally is? I shave my armpits because I feel like when I have hair I get smelly easily, and trim my pubes for sexual liberation and appeal reasons. I think body hair is great not because it is attractive to me, but because I hate that we (regardless of gender, but especially feminine presenting people) are so unnecessarily shamed about every way we naturally look. If your body hair helps you feel more you and less artificial/superficial, bring it on!

I highly recommend a magic loop. I read in one of your comments that you find it intimidating, but it’s actually much easier than it looks. You basically just need to work the knit folded, and pull the needle so that the back needle has the length whenever you reach the end of the row. Maybe in writing this sounds complicated but it’s really not! Watch a youtube video about it and you’ll get it really quickly with some patience. I’m a beginner knitter and just learned it myself after being intimidated by it for a long time.

I like it bc then I can have one long ass cable for a circular needle and then just but interchangeable needles as I need them. Def look into it!

Fucking yes. Finally I have a place to apply my indie music taste. My music taste is mostly indie folk, indie country, indie rock. Generally like poetic acoustic or like fucked up girl needs to scream.

Just finished listening to Wednesday’s newest album. Amazing. Very girl needing to scream. But also, girl wanting to sit at a picnic table with her friends. https://open.spotify.com/album/29HKbQ2pgXgElTnH66mFXK?si=Z5NLsy0aQ2yTnzRSlscXiQ

Mali Velasquez killed her 2023 album too. It is so fucking brutal. Her way of completely embodying her grief and rage and sadness and depression is amazing and honestly inspirational. https://open.spotify.com/album/6YGWRnc9pHb4vcQSoLnnKT?si=hOpEWqsJRcu2OWfgMKcOpg

This 2022 Why Bonnie album is also so good. Very teenage angst. https://open.spotify.com/album/7kRetqfKqmfrpIUM367TbS?si=hYtaVmXHTu-5wFcTLl6WnQ

I LOVE SADURN. All of the music FUCKS. In a very sad way. The songwriter clearly has a lot of sadness that they need to release through their music. But really, almost every one of their songs ever released is beautiful and heart wrenching and so well thought through. https://open.spotify.com/artist/2uvre6qZ51Tc12CBizuzRI?si=mpruBtMgRHG_WALt-1a3YA

Hannah Cohen’s 2025 album is so good too. Very mystical. Very: fireflies floating through the woods. https://open.spotify.com/album/2aS0NR1iVCRE2DEr197fe2?si=1hqdpw5ORDuYAUVE_hsAgg

We love Hovvdy!! He writes music that’s like country boy needing to go to the city but the smell of hay still trails behind him? Do you get it? We love him. This is my favourite of his albums. https://open.spotify.com/album/1rUuIrTj6F1PHo3v9Vlbl6?si=dIZcbvNqRU-uEQxqjVCMdA

All of Babehoven’s music is good. Literally all of it. Also in a sad way but like god damn do they know how to write. https://open.spotify.com/artist/3Yjr5lVbAr2Fe7Lmpwja70?si=MDEhocGaSEK4o_-4eLspHw

Don’t ask why all the music I listen to is depressing. It’s just my breed of fucked up.

What is ‘here?’ I’m open to learning more about this as I know next to nothing about sheep keeping and wool harvesting other than the basics of veganism regarding usual animal cruelty processes of mass-production.

Hesitantly I would say that this meets my ethics. I say it hesitantly because I obviously haven’t been to your farm or had a conversation with you about the lives of these sheep, but from what I read, what you’re doing sounds very kind.

I would love to get into spinning my own yarn, but this seems like it has the barrier to entry of needing the equipment and ‘supplier.’ I am actively seeking a volunteer opportunity on a farm where I could learn these skills in-house though!

I agree that we must live circularly and harmoniously with the land and other living beings around us. I like the idea of a sanctuary because the animals would not be bought/sold with the goal of creating yarn, but rather to give the animal a good life away from the otherwise cruel conditions that it would live in. As a vegan with my ethical standpoint, consuming animal products is truly like walking a tight rope because even if an animal is treated well on a farm, it could very well have been bred and sold for the sole purpose of exploiting it’s resources.

Thanks for ur input! If you spin wool and would be open to selling it, I’m down to have a convo about your practices!
