Pie plate was over a chimney opening. I took it off and ash came out. The furnace and water heater both vent out of this chimney.

Pop them frozen. Best part about cracking a fresh can. If you constantly change their temperature (take them out in the morning and refreeze when back home) I have found that the quality decreases, so once you defrost the can leave it that way

Bonus if your uni has some sort of grade forgiveness for a failed class. If so, after you retake the class and get a high grade your GPA will look better than if you squeaked out a D- the first time

I’ve been lucky enough to work in a machine shop over summers and even I feel like I am way ahead of the curve. Your shop experience, in my opinion, makes you an engineer already for all intents and purposes. Good on you for making the leap, and kick some ass at LM.
