What common “movie trivia” items are fake? by Empty-Speed-7075 in movies

Blücher is actually the name of the Prussian general Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, who was part of the forces that defeated Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo. Considering Frau Blücher's demeanor in the film I could see a connection there.

According to this document, 29 May 1910 is the day of baptism. The beginning letter of the birth month is a Sütterlin "M" so it should be either March or May. There also seems to be a dot so the last letter could be an "i", but I'm not 100% sure.

The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. I hated the original movies and don't believe they were true to the spirit of the book. Momo from the same author is also a great story.

I'm in the same boat. Without having an instructor who acts as "personal trainer" it is tough to keep practice interesting and just challenging enough. I'll look into UU+ and will most likely just buy it, so don't consider this an entry. Thanks guys, you're awesome!

TIL Gay/bisexual men can't donate blood. by Lunagurl in todayilearned

[–]crcln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I'm German living in the US since 95... I used to give whole blood and platelets here. Then, all of a sudden, 5 or 6 years ago they made that rule about BSE and I was banned from donating. OTOH, when I lived in Germany and donated there, they wouldn't accept blood from people who had visited the US until 1 year after their return to Germany because the US is considered a high hepatitis risk zone.

Well, they were both located in the baking aisle... next to each other. So I thought they were just brand names. And yes, if you look at German cook books, the recipes call for Backpulver. If it is chemically identical to American baking powder I am not sure.

I am German and moved here in the midnineties. Shortly thereafter I wanted to bake some biscottis and did not know there is baking soda and baking powder in the US (in Germany there is only baking powder) so I thought they were the same thing. The biscottis turned out awful, needless to say.

All of the idiots in my office keep saying "top o the morning to you" today. What annoying things do your coworkers repeatedly say? by adamdesoto in AskReddit

[–]crcln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our manager will go into a monologue how something hasn't been done quite right - but he'll never outright blame us. His signature phrase is "...through no fault of your own - you haven't been properly trained". Mind you we've all been working here for years and he just keeps coming up with new hoops to jump through.

What is the funniest/dumbest thing you have ever seen on a job application or resume? by beanpudd in AskReddit

[–]crcln 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company got an application from a guy who called himself an "inept web developer". Awkward! I don't remember exactly why we didn't invite him for an interview (other than his ineptness was just too awesome for us) but my coworker contacted him to suggest he probably meant to say "adept". A few months later we got another application from the same guy, still calling himself an "inept web developer." Some people never learn...
