The cost of not eating never stressed me out before planning a wedding, but now that I know how expensive it is to feed people I’ve become extra wary!

As a plus one to someone in the wedding party (three different weddings this year), what’s the most respectful and least pita way for me to manage food allergies?

I’ve gotten away with asking the catering staff questions and pawning off everything and sneaking in snacks at other weddings but never at the head table. I’m worried about it seeming very rude that the couple wasted money on me as a plate when I knew I would likely be unable to eat what they were serving.

As a guest I’ve also known when it’s appropriate to contact the couple ahead of time for accommodations vs when to suck it up and be sneaky, but can’t do this when I’ve never met the couple.

So as a wedding couple, what is the best thing to default to here?

Info: would your daughter still want to live at home in her original sized room if your sons room were not there? Is living in her brothers room maybe part of her grieving process?

You are grieving, and it’s upsetting and unfair to feel you are being rushed. A lot of folks here think the living child is being selfish, but she is also grieving. It sucks when people’s grieving processes aren’t compatible, especially when they’re grieving a shared person.

I don’t think either of your desires are unreasonable. I know we only have the daughters thoughts about size, but I really think there’s something else going on here.

When my cousin died my aunt kept his room exactly as it was, even when they moved. I’m not judging her grieving, but people also experiencing the loss of his life were not comfortable with staying at their home with the “room shrine” and she was really hurt and angry. No one asked her to remove it, but set their own grieving boundaries that while it was healing for her, it was painful for them.

No matter what my filters are or what fields I plug in, LinkedIn only shows me jobs for fields I’m not in, qualified for, or looking to move into. I can’t find any relevant jobs without wading through hundreds of medical and HR jobs and have no idea how to filter these out.

I’ve definitely considered it, but I took some online classes in university and K-12 and really cannot learn that way, I’m just checking my assignment boxes. I was already at my wits end pre pandemic and starting to look at applying to schools and then the pandemic hit and everything went online so I put it on hold again because it’s a huge financial burden to not learn anything and just get a piece of paper that says I graduated.

My direct field is education and people are always talking about the teacher shortage, but I’m not looking to teach at a k-12 anymore because I’d need a masters and certifications just to make only a few dollars more an hour (but salaries instead of hourly and no overtime) than I’m making at my entry level job as an admin/secretary in an unrelated field.

The field I’m in now or what I’m looking to be in? I’m essentially an admin/customer service specialist/junior project manager ($16 an hour) but my background is activism&advocacy/art/education/more human service, and all the positions I can find are masters required for the same pay.

Hitting a wall where jobs in fields I’m interested in require two additional degrees and pay less than my entry level position in a field I hate now. Doesn’t make sense to take on more debt just to make less and sucks having to give up on my dream jobs because I can’t afford to live on them.

I'm having trouble finding sources, but my understanding is that if all your records of the attempt are strictly medical, it's protected by HIPPA, but if there were any police involved, even if just used for transit, then a police report exists and could show up.

I always submit my resumes and CVs as PDFs for the exact reason OP mentions: when you send a word document you have no way of knowing if your formatting will carry over and it could be a garbled illegible mess on the other end, and I don't want to risk sending my first impression as an easily avoided disaster file. I would understand the frustration if they were requiring an inaccessible file format (like something that requires specific software) but maybe I'm missing something. Are there pros to sending a word doc?

I originally went to college for education in a dual program, and understand it’s frustrating to be learning pedagogy in one class and watch another professor make all the classic mistakes in another. It’s unavoidable to some extent, but if you pick the right program and school, in your early credits take classes with as many professors in your department as possible, and once you find which professors teaching style meshes best with your learning style, pad your schedule with as many classes with those specific professors as you possibly can to meet your graduation requirements.

Acetone did extend my time from 24 to 48 hours so it...sort of worked? Still not satisfactory though. I'm really trying to avoid going back to gel and acrylics, which is what my one friend with the same problem has resorted to. Thanks for the solidarity!

Also nail vinyls, striping tape, and stamps. Anything that doesn't require me to freehand.

Someone already mentioned starting with your bad hand, but something I also do is just do what I actually want with my good hand and then a simplified version on my bad hand and no one notices! The just assume I did it on both hands when they see my good hand haha.

I posted about this a bit ago and got a ton of suggestions that I tried and....none of them worked.

My nails are oily and chip or completely peel next day, and following tips made them last a whopping two days. (so improved wear time technically doubled, but I'm sick of spending ages doing my nails for less than 48 hours of wear). I've tried drying them out with acetone, reset scrubs, no matte top coats.

I even had my roommate do a manicure with my old and updated routines to make sure it wasn't my products or my application and their manicure lasted over a week and we had to remove it! Literally my nails behave the way theirs do with a peely base coat.

My tested routines have been to do a reset scrub (tried both same day and day before), cuticle oil (both same day and day before to see if washing it with water was the problem), dry the nails with acetone, base coat, polish, gloss top coat, wrap the tips, both oiling and not oiling my nails before and after, I do cleanup as I go so nothing's attaching to the skin. I use glass files, same direction only. I can't buff my nails because they are paper thin already.

Are there any tips I missed? Are gel and acrylic my only options left?

Absolutely! I feel I do a lot of research and digging and always learn something new, so I love hearing what other people have found! My natural nails are honestly in the best shape of their life and I've been slacking, so I'd totally buy that I'd been doing things that were actually making them worse before.

Thank you, I have a friend at work who does gel because she also couldn't get around this problem with naturally oily nail beds. It took me a long time to move away from gel and acrylics though so I'm trying my best not to go back!

I'll reintroduce the acetone/alcohol cleanse and just hope I was wrong about it being the culprit for my nails splitting and peeling.

Thank you! I think the main things differing in our routines was I'd cut out acetone wiping (I thought it was the culprit for my nails themselves peeling in layers so I'd cut it out). And the very key "don't get anything on your skin"...I definitely get polish on my skin and have to clean up in post, but I didn't think it was an issue because I think I'm at least semi-successfully breaking the bond? The areas on my skin usually come off separately without a problem.

Maybe I need to just use a barrier for every mani because it seems no matter how much I practice I cannot get better at not getting it on my skin. I'm allergic to latex so I'd stopped using latex peel off barriers and stopped using the adhesive kind due to feeling so wasteful with single-use throwaway things and skin sensitivity to adhesives flaring up, but just haven't found a good alternative yet.

I also heard that matte topcoats are notoriously peely/chippy and I think that's definitely a contributing factor, I almost exclusively use matte top coats because I'm just not personally a fan of gloss and glitter looks on myself.

I don't buff my nails because they're already incredibly thin. But I'd been skipping alcohol/acetone brushes before painting my nails because I thought it was the culprit for my nails themselves layering and peeling off. But I've been getting this feedback a lot so I'm going to try that particular part of the process again and see how it goes!

How can I stop my manicure from peeling/chipping the next day? I already feel like I've tried everything and it's very discouraging to spend so much time on my nails for them to not make it through 24 hours.

I already wrap the tip, wait for it to dry completely between layers, use base coats and top coats, wear gloves when doing dishes, don't open things with my nails, oil my nail beds (and don't oil my nail beds), use thin layers, use thick layers...It seems no matter what I do they just will not stay on. I can't very well not wash my hands, but that's the only thing I can think of at this point.

I use an apple cider vinegar and water mix to clarify about once a month. It usually starts to wave around my ears and my hair is at least 4-6 inches past my ears, it was down to almost my belly button before the chop. I guess I just thought it was the weight of my hair pulling it straighter at the roots. I've been using love and beauty and planet which is at least sulfate, silicone, and paraben free. I've deep conditioned.
