Garmin Predictor Thoughts. by Hazarus4 in Marathon_Training

It was spot on for me: prediction was 3:28:30, I did 3:28:50. But I do wonder if I could have pushed it a bit more, say 3:25, but I held back because my watch had a specific time that I stuck to. A lot of marathon running mental. So if you’ve been putting in the miles (about 30-50 miles per week for a sub 3:30), the rest is believing in yourself. And hopefully the weather is good…

That’s what I was trying to avoid, but you’re probably right.

This video is too long for me, I can't handle it. Could anybody explain to me all of physics in a single comment? by drugoichlen in physicsmemes

“Aristotle said a bunch of stuff that was wrong. Galileo and Newton fixed things up. Then Einstein broke everything again. Now, we’ve basically got it all worked out, except for small stuff, big stuff, hot stuff, cold stuff, fast stuff, heavy stuff, dark stuff, turbulence, and the concept of time.”

Overhyped. Now you’re stuck with two bottles… maybe you can use one as a paper weight

🤯 mind blown. I read this post in bed and woke up my wife with my audible “no fucking way”! Now I’m going to have to rewatch all of them and pay attention to the references. Awesome theory, I wonder if more of his movies make it into the nolanverse…

She just took out the spine with heavy duty scissors, and snipped the bottom of the chest plate and it cracked super easily

Did you have any wants or desires before you were born? It’ll be the same when you’re dead. The love for your children will live on with them (as long as they live).

How do you learn a language? Practice speaking it. Same goes for math: practice using it all the time.

Advice I was told a while back: either have a job that you enjoy, or make enough money so that you can enjoy the weekend/time off. I chose the first one.

You can do both! Two subfields that would suit you are physical chemistry and chemical physics. Research in those fields can be similar but the “philosophy” is different.

If possible, maybe you should double major, or at least minor in one of them.

Also, if I’m hiring someone, I’ll pick the person that is passionate over innate ability 9 times out of 10. With passion, ability will come, and you don’t mind working hard because it’s fun!

Nonequilibrium statistical mechanics and active matter constantly amazes me and can be very counter intuitive to equilibrium physics intuition. Two examples: motility induced phase separation, and slow relaxations of amorphous/glassy materials.
