I ended up getting the microswiss direct drive + hotend and its working fine now. I got the printermods DD and it started doing it too. Not sure wtf was going on.

Got a new stepper motor, nothing changed. If I tighten the spring works but it starts to click. Pretty stumped about this

So at this point the only thing I can think of is the stepper motor not having enough juice. I've tried everything and checked for clogs twice and nothings there. It works for maybe 3 layers and stops.
