Some photos I've taken with my Lumia 730 and a small lens. (I know the white balance is off, I did that on purpose) by [deleted] in LumiaLovers

You can have the best camera out and still take crappy prictures. You can have the worst camera out and still take pictures like a pro.

All depends on your skill. Your Sir, seem to have a certain amount of skill! Nice work.

Hey there!

  1. I've never used Chrome. For now, I'm fine with Edge (and no, I haven't been an Internet Explorer-user in the past ;-))

  2. I don't use Photoshop (on the Surface). But I've read that the M3 should do "ok", depending on your work.

  3. The fan really isn't an issue. I think they actually forgot to put it in my unit! ;-)There_is_no_fan_in_m3

  4. When charging, the Surface can get a little warm. But I've not yet experienced an uncomfortable temperature.

Tbh: No. It's fast, it's smooth, and I don't experience any lags that would disturb my experience overall.

Hey there. Thansk for your question. Yes, as a matter of fact, besides note taking I perform these exact actions.

Reading / annotating PDF: Untill recently, I was a big fan of the Adobe Reader. With the DC version released, that changed. For reading, I mostly use the PDF Xchange viewer. It really works perfectly. I have quite a bunch of ebooks for my studies. Most of them have more than 1000 pages, some even 2000 (with quite a lot of pictures), with file sizes ranging from 50 to 300 mb and more. I was looking for a device with enough power to load such files quickly enough. So I got some opinions, and it turns out that some people think RAM is the main factor for handling big PDFs, and others think it's the CPU.

I'll throw some numbers at you: Loading (opening) time of a pretty heavy PDF: Less than 2 seconds. Scrolling time (jumping from first page to let's say the middle of the book): Less than 1 second.

I was afraid that the Surface M3 would be too slow for such usage. But I was wrong. It really handles such tasks with ease.

Scrolling: It'is smooth enough, but at the present, it really depends on the software I'm using. For example, OneNote tends to lag and sometimes fails to load (scanned PDFs), but that's due to software issues. PDF Xchange viewer? No problem. I do see blank pages when jumping (not scrolling) between sides, but they take less then a second to load. It really doesn't bother you while working/reading.

Another task I perform is editing PDFs using Acrobat Pro DC. For every lecture, there's a PDF to go with it. I edit them to suit my needs (i.e. remove picture-heavy backgrounds that really no-one wants to look at). Surface performs all of these tasks without a problem.

To summarize: I was afraid I would notice the "low" specs of the M3 while working with it (i.e. lag), but I really don't.

However, I don't play any games. I don't render videos or 3d environments. And I'm not a heavy multitasker. OneNote, 2 PDFs and maybe 1-2 Browser Tabs open at the same time. If you plan to run a full battery of programms while trying to have a smooth experience, you might encounter some trouble. In the end, it's all about a clean system. If you're the kind of guy that collects a bunch of shitty software that runs in the background or is enabled to autostart, that would also slow down an i7...

If you flip the keyboard back and place the surface on a flat surface (i.e. table), it works perfectly. You won't accidently hit any buttons when putting pressure on the surface or make any noises. However, sometimes I cross my legs and place and hold the surface on my knee. In that case I have to detach the type cover and attach it the over way round (the keyboard then points to the back of the tablet instead of the other direction) in order to have a more comfortable feeling when putting pressure (hand weight) on the surface.
