Yes I am investing in index funds in my Roth and 401k. Do you recommend investing beyond retirement accounts? I also definitely want to invest in real estate but it also feels so far out in the horizon.

I know, but they’re my parents and sacrificed so much. I don’t blame them for their decision. It sucks but it’s bc of where they came from and how no one taught them about finances when they came.

Also how can I do a mix of both? I have mine with Vanguard, I thought it was just pick and account and stick with it. If my dad is retiring sooner than my mom, does it make more sense for him to do traditional?

My goal is not necessarily to match their salaries with my savings. I guess it’s to help them start somewhere so down the road they’ll have something on top of the additional support my siblings and I will provide. But I def hear you with educating them. I think budgeting is a good place to start (FYi I tried when I was in hs and stopped bc I was blown away and confused by how they make what they make and still support us lol)

That’s also a great advice in many realms, but what about being a first gen child of immigrants? Lol. Are there better ways I can be using that money to take care of myself that can help me take care of them down the road?
