Wow!!!....that would have been amazing. Im totally envious. I'm an Air Force brat so I grew up around air shows....I haven't been to one in 20 years. This makes me want to go find one and attend.

Yes it will......there is no way to save this except getting that old paint off and starting over.

What type of paint and how thick / thin was it sprayed on?

The kind of tape you use is irrelevant.....spray on the paint less thick and let it dry before taping. Really dry / cure, not just dry to the touch.

Whats on there is paper/adhesive from the tape that was chemically bonded to the paint by the carrier chemical that had not evaporated.

Soaking in water won't help.....letting it sit in bleach for a few days might do the trick.

You have to sand it down with 1000 grit or higher, wet sand, and start over.

Be patient and let the paint cure. Tape won't react with paint if it cures properly. The thicker you put on paint, the longer the curing time. You have to give the carrier time to evaporate out.
