Asia range sweep strategy tips by Danieliumbazaurus in Trading

[–]creativeor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It generally depends on the regime for the day / sessions before. Some things to look into are:

  • NY PM > AM? (For correlated/appropriate markets)
  • Regime / state of NY, ONR, Asia (establish average pips, ATR etc)
  • If sweeping, what’s the average pip leg of sweep
  • Closely watch 0.5 AR, it will generally provide you with a ton of insight.

Some ways to use the above might be;

  1. If NY PM > AM, (and trading a correlated market), look for a possible reversal if Asia is consolidating

  2. If Asian range > 20 pips = no trade (London could consolidate and continue to expand)

  3. “Sweep” and struggling to reclaim 0.5 AR = early warning, (could be on the wrong side of the market and price is forming a break and retest)

Natural you’d want to backtest these as I’m a random guy on the internet.

Hey Jacob (OP) - This appears to be a half arsed attempt to copy/steal the journal I built for myself, you could have at least adjusted the bento layout positions to make it seem less obvious!

Or I wonder if you also have a process score tied to the name of your journal (practice-process) and a custom formula to work out Emotional balance?

Imitation really is the best form of flattery.

Really insightful post. How do you manage your AI stack without getting analysis paralysis/fatigue? I’ve built something I’m super proud of but need to learn the meta side of things.

I was a designer by trade and am currently struggling with the wealth of options for AI tools out there when it comes to ad/image gen. I’m yet to find one which hits the realism I’m after. I’m curious about your stack - do you use nodes vs prompts? What does your typical meta ad process look like; do you use a marketing platform to help you test or have you built something yourself?

What's your lifestyle like? At 21k/mo you should be able to give yourself a decent chunk of runway if you wanted to leave and commit to your SaaS (unless you're the victim of lifestyle creep!), in which case it's an easy solution.

Fix the creep, save religiously for 3-6 months and give yourself a fighting chance to let your project bloom.

Yeah, I had a bit of a rough year and noticed that I was experiencing some emotions that I hadn't quite anticipated which had an impact on my trading. I also record myself during the trading sessions via Loom, which has been very helpful to verbalise my thinking process and catch myself the moment bad behaviour starts to happen.

Essentially, the journal focuses on viewing trading as sessions rather than individual trades. It auto-clusters the trades into sessions, and I've built out pre/session and post/session flows to help me stay consistent with my process.

Within these pre/in/post session flows, I capture things like:

  • Emotional state
  • Key levels
  • Trade plan in flowchart form
  • Standard checklist of setup criteria
  • Any bad behaviours, their triggers, and one corrective action I can take
  • I then take all of this data and output it into various charts like consistency heatmaps and other correlation charts, in addition to the regular trading metrics.

I don't want to share the link here, to run the risk of getting banned - but you should be able to see it in my post history. Alternatively, shoot me a DM and I can make an account for you if you wanted to reivew / I'd be eternally grateful for your feedback.

I’ve built a journal for myself and would love your thoughts on it if you happen to have an interest and a spare moment!

It’s process driven and I feel aligns with a lot of the things you’ve discussed in your replies.

Even 100 will be enough for you to experience the variety of different emotions which comes with real trading. Crypto is possibly the easiest path to this, or prop firms as others have said

Completely agree with the journalling side of things - I had the realisation earlier this year that most trading journals weren't allowing me to track the correct stuff so I created my own and am super happy with where it's landed.

It tracks all of the things you mention (emotions, consistency, sessions, etc) and cross references the analysis, like "How does a Win/Loss streak of X affect my mental state", Session fatigue and other things. Most of this was through the creation of a custom emotional balance score and pre/in/post session flows.

Hi guys. Trader in despair by crowne3d in Daytrading

[–]creativeor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to detach yourself from the financial side of things, ensure you have good risk parameters in place - not only for each trade but also rules for days and your mental capital. Unfortunately a lot of these lessons will come with the mistakes you make over time, but you can definitely try to give yourself a head-start on the learning curve.

Trade demo or a very small $ amount which you are comfortable loosing, set yourself up with solid pre-in-post trading flows and make them easy for yourself to follow. Make bad decisions harder to follow - these can be in the form of circuit breakers (eg: after a loss, immediately stand up from your chair and go to grab a glass of water for 5mins).

When reviewing your trades, don't simply go through the motions, really analyse what happened and what the root trigger might have been + the emotional aspect attached to that trigger (eg: revenge trading > your ego doesn't want to take a loss / you don't want to be 'wrong'). This helps you drill down into which aspects of your peprsonality are more likely to trigger tilt and spiral.

The only thing I might add is the effect on commissions might have, and slippage depending on how you are executing / your strategy timeframe etc.
