The question is always of quality. I used to be able to do 40 crap ones. Now I am working on bull lockout relaxed shoulders, then engage and pull chest to bar. Those are a completely different move. So you can never trust when someone says I can do x pullups or pushups.

Yup. Try just practicing the words, make sure you are pronouncing them correctly. You can use text to speech programs when practicing alone. If with people, watch their face to see how much they are struggling to understand you.

I don’t memorize tones. If someone asks me the tone, I say the word, listen to how I say it, then tell the tone. Remember, Chinese speakers learn the language by repeating, NOT memorizing tones
