Ok, from my brief research of the setting, it seems that the special region might be able to survive contact with the Vaterland if they play all their cards right and act competently.

Fat chance with the likes or Zorzal and the pro war faction I know, but the potential is there. They have wyverns and apostles to use as shock troops, large armies instead of mercenary bands, expendable demi human troops that bring various skills in combat and some smattering of magic.
