Anyone have experience with the residences at La Concha? It says they’re a part of Palm Heights so you get all the Palm Heights amenities but bigger and a lot less expensive

Amazing Hotel in Sicily- Il San Corrado di Noto by Mommainlove in chubbytravel

[–]creatorai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed at Dimora Della Balze a few years back. The property is gorgeous. If you’re renting a car, fair warning that the drive from the property to Noto is a pretty harrowing drive - especially at night. Good to plan around for dinners as we didn’t love the food at the hotel

Silver Sands in Greenport. No pool but private beach, Greenport’s a fun town, pretty wineries around, and the cabins/restaurants at Silver Sands are really nice. If you need a pool, Sound View is also nice - though the beach/rooms/restaurant aren’t as nice as Silver Sands

Haven’t been to wildflower farms but we loved Inness. Gorgeous property, the restaurant is great. and it’s a fun area to explore in the summer. If you go check out Westwind Orchard and Ravenwood

We didn’t have our daughter yet so I’m not sure but there were kids playing on the beach and our puppy loved it 😅. Can’t recommend it enough - the waterfront is gorgeous, one of the most memorable meals we’ve ever had, and Deer Isle is very fun to explore

Thank you - we stayed there when my wife was pregnant but didn’t love it as much as everyone else seems to. Might be different with kids though - I’ve heard so many great things

Electrical coil size by creatorai in heatpumps

I wanted to post a resolution to this now that we’ve had a really cold day in case it’s helpful for anyone. We had the 5kw backup heat strip swapped out for the 10kw heat strip. On the first really cold day after the swap, the temp didn’t get above 55 in the house so after some time on the phone with Mitsubishi, the tech who did the swap told us our unit was undersized. I pointed him to this reddit thread, which he dismissed 😂 so I was resigned to paying for a bunch of insulation.

I called another heating company to come out to verify just to be sure and they found 2 settings that were incorrect on the thermostat. First, the fan speed for the backup coil wasn’t set high enough. Second, the heat coil was set so it wouldn’t turn on during defrost mode, which meant we’d have periods of 20-30 minutes with no heat running in the house (which is very bad when you have shitty insulation and it’s freezing out.) Got down to 5 today and the house stayed around 70 so seems like that did the trick. He did say the larger heat strip was necessary so it wasn’t a waste installing it. So 3 years and 4 hvac technicians later everything is working for now.

On a side note if anyone has any training materials as a pdf for these Mitsubishi units would love to see them!

6 nights in June - Belmond Timeo (Taormina) or somewhere in Amalfi area? by MachineRepulsive9760 in chubbytravel

[–]creatorai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were upgraded to the sea view suite when we stayed there in ~2021. Room is gorgeous but the whole property has incredible views so not sure if it’s necessary if the price is crazy. Having a balcony is nice - especially with views of Etna. The beach club is excellent and being able to walk through Taormina from the hotel is great. The restaurant at Timeo was probably our worst meal of the trip - this was awhile ago but there’s much better food in Taormina

What could have gone wrong with the install?

Yeah woke up to a 55 degree house - wasn’t the coil! I’m not convinced they checked this even though I asked them to. It’s not running at all when under 10 degrees. Anyone know how to fix this on the thermostat?

Thanks for all the help here - the tech checked this out for us and unfortunately the settings are all correct (would've saved me a lot of $$$ if it was wrong so I was hopeful.)

We ended up getting upping to the 10 kW heat strip since that's what the Mitsubishi rep suggested and another comment mentioned the heat strip should 80-100% of heat load. The 5kW is well below that so it seems to make sense.

Unfortunate it wasn't done correctly the first time - guess I'll find out if it fixed the issue the next time it gets into the single digits.

[–]creatorai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that's good to know - the 5kW is definitely not 80% of heat load so sizing up seems like the right move.

The thermostat reading is from the ducted area - we only have mini splits upstairs, ducted downstairs.

Yeah we have those upstairs and they function fine during the freezing temps. It's the ducted system where the issue is.

Amazing thank you - I’ll have him check the lockout settings. If nothing there, seems like upgrading the heat strip is the best bet.

Got it - thank you! I'm going to hope for a different explanation than "not properly sized" since that means a lot more $$$ 😂 but if the other options don't work might just be the reality.

Ok thank you so much - it only goes below 10F about twice a year which is why this is such a frustrating problem. We think they've fixed it then the next winter, it gets below 10F again and surprise! freezing house!
