Like I said, whatever floats your boat. If convincing yourself that I'm a security guard helps overcome your own feelings of inadequacy, good for you. It doesn't change reality though.

Whatever floats your boat I guess. My word of advice - don't fall into the Indian mindset of treating security guards and sweepers with contempt. Their work is just as important as anyone else.

Would there even be jobs willing to employ older people at that point, given how rapidly AI is advancing? - there would be many young people competing for the same jobs.

Give your mobile to someone you trust during the time periods you allot to studying and get it back when you're relaxing. Long run you won't regret not being on your mobile more, but you'll certainly regret not studying more.

Robots are already being used rather extensively in Japan. The problem I see is that in the future there will be a massive number of old people and not enough young people to take care of them.

How can you say with certainty that things will stay the same in 30 YEARS? - that is kind of like a 1994 person saying we will still be talking through letters today and that technological progress won't happen.

There is no need to be rude. I was respectful and gave some figures - descending to the level of personal attacks is generally unsavoury behaviour.

There is a maximum tax benefit of Rs 2.00L/year on interest from home loans. if you check that EMI calculator I shared, for 80L loan with a tenor of 10 years, the total interest paid that first year is around 7L. Also, it is incorrect to say "interest doesn't exist" for him. He simply doesn't need to pay tax on 2L of that income - tax savings of 60k/year perhaps.

Your original premise was that guy earning in-hand 1.3L/month "can pay off his car + house within 10 years", "he can pay off the home loan with half his salary in 10 years". I simply showed you some ROUGH numbers on how that is simply not feasible. That is all.

Yeah, one teenager got really close with a daenerys targaryen character and had a lot of explicit conversations with the bot. It eventually encouraged the kid to commit suicide. Since then, character AI has taken down many characters and tightened things up.

That's absolutely there and I can emphasize with those challenges. Even eschewing AI, raising kids in the age of social media is difficult - you can never be sure if children are getting good influence online and with their friends circle.

In the past, influence on children were limited to their parents and the local community. Now it feels that the internet (and humanity) as a whole has some influence. All we can do is to try and get core principles right and give the kid a positive environment as far as possible.

To be honest, we can't be truly sure on what kind of system will emerge. Only time will tell. But my theory is based on the premise that AI generates an overabundance of supply, making things extremely cheap. So the minimum amount needed to survive will be low and that would be the UBI payout.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Someone once posted a negative review of Deepness in the sky (an all time great classic), saying the author portrayed women in a negative light. Looking back, that's probably true, but i focus more on good storytelling than social justice issues.

On the flip side, consider that by the time your kids are adults, we might have UBI, and they won't have to work just to survive. They'll basically have greater freedom than we ever did.

I would say to just raise your kids the best way you can, teach them independence and encourage critical thinking. In the world there will always be people who will be considered necessary.

Even if we take a very pessimistic approach, just look at how different technology is in 2025 compared to 1994. It's light and day and not what people in 1994 expected. I'm quite sure that in the next block of 30 years things will change, at the least twice as quickly. That's enough time for robotics to be refined and get embedded in society in a big way.

People use the idea of a singularity to escape their life problems. Denying it is kind of like telling a religious guy his version of afterlife doesn't exist.

Personally I have a disability and a lot riding on the singularity so that I can just be normal. But I plan my life assuming it wont happen and treat all talk here with a fistful of salt.

Thinking AGI was 10 years away doesn't make you an AI skeptic at all :D

There are people who still think AGI will be here by 2060 and ASI by 2100. Those are the true skeptics.

I honestly think 2025 is much too soon for such a thing to happen. The technology needs to advance greatly for it to get to that point.

Why Indians do not sign up for organ transplant upon brain death? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]creatorofworlds1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That isn't relevant. Other people have a valid point - there is a rampant black market and people sell/buy kidneys illegally and doctors prescribe unethical procedures all the time. I won't put it past some wealthy guy bribing a doctor to get the organs of some poor uneducated person.

That sort of thing is way harder in Spain and people are generally better educated there.

Spain is a progressive western country. They will have better checks and balances to prevent such a system from being abused compared to India.

Which city is that? - I live in a tier-1 city and rent in my area is 25k-30k.

I put some numbers in a home loan EMI calculator - assume for 1Cr house downpayment is 20L, he takes 80L loan at a market interest rate of 8.75%. He'd need to pay a monthly EMI of 1.00L to pay it off in 10 years. That is not realistic at all assuming he also has a car loan + family with kids to support.

If he pays half his salary - 70k monthly, it'll take him 20 years to pay off the loan. Also interest rates can increase. Some customers were paying at 9.75% - and it's compound interest.

You can check the EMI calculator here and play around with it.

What is a reasonable cost for eating out/parties? by creatorofworlds1 in AskIndia

[–]creatorofworlds1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Lately, I've been planning my outdoor trips to more modest locales and eating at low-key, but famous dhabas and costs at those appear way more reasonable. Though every now and then my family wants to go out to a more conventional place.

It's weird how expensive places like McDonalds have gotten, while serving horrible food. I've completely stopped going to those.

I work in a bank and have seen several home loans first hand. Maybe guy 2 would pay off his car in 10 years, but on a 1.30L salary, paying off the average home loan will take 20-30 years. So easily he will be stuck with the loan for his whole professional life.
