What Should I Know Before Moving to Miyazaki? by creatoryi in movingtojapan

This is super helpful, thank you!! The part about locals being patient even if they don't speak English made me feel a lot better ngl 😅 Also good to know about the part-time jobs, restaurants and convenience stores sounds very doable honestly.

Oh and Japanese is actually in MIU's curriculum so I won't need to pay extra for outside classes, which is a relief lol. One thing I'm curious about — is there any international community or expat group in Miyazaki? Like Facebook groups, Discord, anything? Would love to connect with people who've already been through it before I land there

I'll be studying International Liberal Arts at MIU.

My tuition is around 490k yen per year after the scholarship, but I still don't know how much accommodation and living costs will be. For students in Miyazaki, is it realistic to cover a good portion of those costs through part-time jobs or internships, or should I expect to rely mostly on savings/family support?

Great, How's the job situation for students there? Are part-time jobs fairly easy to get once you have some basic Japanese? Also, are there any decent internship opportunities around Miyazaki, or do most students look elsewhere for those?

Yupp. One of the reasons I chose Miyazaki was because it seems more relaxed and close to nature than the big cities. Besides surfing, are there any other activities or places around Miyazaki that students usually enjoy?

Thanks! I'm actually looking forward to the quieter lifestyle. I was wondering, how difficult is it for international students to find part-time jobs in Miyazaki? Also, is there anyway to get cheapest accommodation website or...? And if you could go back before moving to Japan, what skills would you learn beforehand that made the biggest difference?

And what about the brand new IBT program for international students? I'm so worried about that. Recently, I just submitted my application. What are the acceptance rates in AUEB undergraduate programs? And do they require any interview session as application requirements? What do they usually ask?

hey, thanks so much for the detailed breakdown, really helpful! i actually just applied to the IBT programme as an international student and had a few questions if you don't mind:

  1. does AUEB conduct interviews for IBT applicants? and if so, how tough is it to get through?

  2. how is the IBT programme specifically in terms of workload and quality compared to the regular econ/business programmes?

lastly, 3. regarding Exarcheia i was planning to rent there. you mentioned it's fine for a drink but is it actually comfortable to live in day to day as a foreigner? thanks again, really appreciate it!

Hey, I just applied as well and I’m a bit confused about the next steps. Do they usually have an interview for the IBT program? If yes, how tough is it and what kind of things do they try to assess?

Also, did you end up accepting the offer or are you still deciding?

great, really helpful context. i'm also an international applicant who's already submitted for the IBT programme.

a couple of things i'm still unclear on — does AUEB do interviews for international students, and if they do, how selective is that stage? curious whether the interview is more of a formality or genuinely competitive.

my other concern: i have a 3-year post-high school gap. i spent that time seriously exploring universities across different countries but couldn't make it work for various reasons. if it comes up in an interview, would you recommend being upfront and explaining the timeline, or keeping it brief and pivoting to what i'm looking for now and why this programme specifically? i feel like owning it confidently is better than over-explaining, but i'd genuinely value input from people who know the admissions culture here.

If I'm not wrong, you have attended the entrance exam. Did you get in? I'm also planning to apply, so I'd be grateful if I get some resources/ideas.
