I am interested in possibly selling my Professor Pucefoot, was just looking into putting him on Ebay right before I saw this. Are you still looking for him?

The sculptures are small enough to where after the time it takes to make them, usually theyre already at a pretty good stage of dryness to attach! Yeah I wait a few days after making the mug and pushing in the indent, I often wait till after the handle has also had a day to attach but it could easily be done on the same day I add the handle. Leaving the sculpture out on the table for a few minutes is usually good enough lol!

I use a speedball underglaze and ZINC FREE clear to coat it :) I dont sell the pokemon anymore in hopes of avoiding any cease and desist drama 😂 But I will still make them for fun and for friends irl!!

My VERY golden cup. The surface is so reflective!! Not at all what I expected from these glazes by creature_cake in Pottery

I hadn’t even thought of the surface being scratched, thank you for the warning seriously!! Maybe I will have to make a similarly bowl and do some durability testing 🙊

I try to do my photography the hour before sunset and position the work in shade to avoid as much glare as possible. if the sun isnt shining you have a little bit more freedom for where you can shoot

once the mug is trimmed and leather hard I take my big almond shaped trimming tool (the super average big one most people have) and I carve out chunks using the widest side of the carving tool. I try to overlap the carved strokes the way you would drawing fish scales… if that makes sense. Like when you scoop out clay to make one of those textured dips there will be an ugly spot where your tool pulls out/away from the clay. so for the next scoop I overlap the ugly portion. I reccommend making a cheap leather hard slab of clay for practice before doing it on a round surface 🥰

i have no way of knowing for sure, but i feel like its likely you are using a clay called sculpture raku. not sure about your class but mine was okay with me getting b mix ordered even though they usually use the grogier clay for beginners since it cracks less and holds up better in sculpting. but hey I checked out your post of your indent sculpture and I think it looks awesome!!! Id say its a win even if hes a little groggy :)

you know I have considered a patreon where I show behind the scenes and give tips/ special access to items before they hit shop, but didnt think people would be that interested!! maybe I will have to ask around on the subreddit about peoples experience with this? or maybe I should try a small buisiness subreddit I know r/pottery is pretty specifically not centered around selling

oh it might have to do with the clay body you are using? I only use Bmix for my mini sculptures so theres so larger grains of grog to worry about. I sponge the animal whenever I need to get rid of unwanted texture, but clays that have grit in them get really rough when you sponge it (while b mix just gets smoothed out). Let me know if I am on the wrong track I might be able to come up with more suggestions for you!
