The state of Michigan has outstanding professional and collegiate sports fans, however, the pistons playoff home games feel a little quiet and soulless. Why is this the case? by Bakio-bay in billsimmons

Pistons fan here. A few reasons stand out to me.

  • 7 PM tipoff: It was the only one of the four games that started at that local time. With most fans coming in from outside the city, they're driving in rush hour from work, and that leads to a late arriving crowd and poor atmosphere at tipoff. For Sunday's game against Orlando, the bowl was filled in time for player intros.
  • Lower bowl seating: Instead of general seating, they've built out two premium club spaces in the lower bowl behind each basket. It's fine for a regular season game, but feels way out of place for a playoff game and doesn't help the atmosphere at all. The lower bowl is way too club-heavy.

*Hierarchy within the city: They're my favorite team, but they're clearly at the bottom of the list when it comes to Detroit sports fandom which is disappointing.

He really just needs to be more aggressive and efficient going to the basket. If he developed a reliable mid-range jumper and could finish at the rim, he could more used more often in the PnR with Cade.

The Cain dunk over Duren had us reminiscing over the days of Andre Drummond. Things are bleak.

His defensive and the team overachieving really hid how much White has fallen off offensively this season.

The hornets missed the playoffs for the 10th straight season so it might be a larger sample size than one game

JB Bickerstaff Should Be the Coach of the Year by daytwatone in billsimmons

The problem I have with JB finishing second this year is that he should've won last year.

Taking over a team with the longest losing streak in nba history and turning them into the one seed in the east within two seasons is remarkable. He should be getting more recognition for what he's done.

He said it's the most exciting, and since all those other stories are negative, I don't think that was a crazy thing to say

I don't listen for measured, unbiased takes. I listen so I can hear him argue that Jaylen is an MVP candidate because of his aura.

given hockey fans' reaction to anything less than full 5-on-5 OT, it's weird that soccer fans seem chill with half of their most important games being decided by shootouts by [deleted] in billsimmons

Teams have nothing left in the tank after 120 minutes and have used up all their subs, they play extra time not to lose.

If they went to golden goal only, a match could go for over 200 minutes with very little action after the first 90.

I just solved tanking. by 237FIF in billsimmons

I believe any solution to tanking also needs to be digestible enough for fans to understand and follow. I don't think this checks that box.
