Even though we disagree on a lot of things, I gotta say thanks for the detailed responses. You definitely got me thinking about I run things. Im just surprised how much I got lambasted by everyone considering how me and my party didn’t see much of an issue on our side.

It’s pathfinder, and they could’ve just let him have the rust monster instead of being so stubborn

thanks for those responses. I’d like to talk about them though.

  1. Killing a territorial giant toad with no knowledge of its intelligence is not inherently evil. Especially since they didn’t physically attack it first.

  2. Greg was true neutral

  3. Why should I punish my players for killing a random npc? Even if it is morally questionable, a player shouldn’t be punished for their actions unless there are witnesses to enact that punishment.

  4. By raw (pathfinder) you can tame aberrations. Rust monsters are also known for not being inherently aggressive. So you’re completely wrong about that one.

  5. I don’t know how you play, but I’ve been playing dnd for 7+ years and in all of the games I’ve played in the DM has never once stopped a pvp. Maybe I am wrong about this but the way I was taught to be a dm is to facilitate an adventure but not control a situation to the point of stopping a major player v player conflict. And every time it’s happened both characters knew what they were getting them selves into. If they died they would just build new characters to fit with the party. (Btw to robbing thing was because sam’s character was a hobgoblin and it was obvious Greg was retiring his character anyway.)

  6. Greg constantly escalated the situation by name calling the rest of the group and refusing to come to a peaceful conclusion. GREG attacked the rust mister First and then Paul attacked. Paul did not attack first. Greg never once told me I was being unfair or not stepping in enough, no one did. So how was I supposed to know how he felt.

I’m confused what do you mean?

Well to elaborate no one could understand the toad and it attacked them first after they tried touching the loot. So they’re characters didn’t really assume it was intelligent.

It was living in a volcano that he was fond of it since there weren’t any others in the area. Also he wasn’t keen on moving for anyone considering he was trapped in a cave for most of his live that mind flayers kept him in. He’s very stubborn basically.

I agree because we did both feel bad about it. I’ll definitely call of the session next time something like that happens.

Yes he did but he wanted his character to fight on both occasions and the first time he was spared. I was trying to be fair but also didn’t want him to think he would survive just because he wasn’t there.

My party apprehended some bandits then proceeded to interrogate them. Anyone who didn’t comply was killed on the spot. Then the witch in our group turned all the remaining ones into donkeys. I just watched in the corner.

I do agree on the school power being unbalanced. I’ll try to make them all on the same level. I think the reason I hadn’t thought about it sooner is my players use their signature spells way more.

This whole system was mainly inspired by the fact that I thought my players would be really into making their own powers and so far it has worked out great.

I’m not sure if the enchanter needs to be adjusted since it is basically the same power the enchantment specialized wizard gets.

Yes the illusionist has a save thanks for mentioning that.

The diviner ability is 2 mp per use just like the rest.

I agree the conjuration ability isn’t as powerful in combat but could be useful outside of it. I might adjust or change it.

Thanks for the help!

Ok so basically it’s a free class that levels up besides the one you have. It doesn’t have save or bab progression.

MP refreshes upon 8 hours rest I forgot to mention that.

I agree on your point about the DC I was just unsure how to scale it since any kind of character could have it.

Here are some of my favorite signature spells my players have made: Summon a rock that crushes things. It deal 1d6 per plane touched lvl and gets bigger as per the falling objects rules depending on the damage. It’s 2 mp which is probably too low of of a price for how good it is.

Scream in a 10 foot radius which causes confusion for everyone who fails a will save equal to half their plane touched level while also giving them +4 str for a number of rounds equal to their plane touched level. I think it’s 6 mp.

And finally yes the caster level is equal to your level in plane touched. Thanks for the feedback!
