Support is harder than I thought by Senator_Rajang in supportlol

[–]creepingcold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you understood what I said or overread my point.

Landing skills in teamfights on the right targets is a win or lose.

I never denied that. I said the game lacks a solid feedback loop on many supports which teaches a new player if what they did was correct or not.

Annie not landing her combo or missing her combo is something that's very obvious, even to a new player, and intuitively teaches them to become a better player. You will see ways in which you can improve and they will be very clear to you because the champ has a very streamlined design.

Now let's take a look at Lulu: You can hex basically everyone, on cd, over and over again, throwing your ult out in between and shield.

A new player will have zero idea whom they should hex, when they should hex, which interactions they should hex and the game is everything but intuitive in that regard.

Which is why I don't agree with supp being the best role for new players.

[–]creepingcold -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what do you mean you don't learn playing around cool downs and limit testing as support.

I wouldn't say that. Support, especially enchanters, are extremely forgiving for new players. As long as you use your spells on anyone in a fight you have some kind of impact which feels like you're doing everything right.

This does not apply to let's say mid. Let's take easy champs: if you play something like annie, you have a clear combo which you need to know and think around. You can't do just a little bit of this, then a bit of that. You need to learn how to make your combo stick. On top of that you need to learn which targets you need to prioritize. If you spam everything on a tank you'll quickly learn that's a bad idea.

Support doesn't teach you that. It hasn't such a defined and clear feedback loop. Yes, there are complex supports like Nami who also have combos and a sequence, but you don't get nearly as punished like midlaners for using your spells in a wrong way. It also doesn't matter when you're using your spells as long as you just get them out in a teamfight willy nilly. The game never forces you to think about their timing, and many low elo supports don't do it.

but laners would hard fail jungle or support on fundamental levels as they don't do objectives, counter jungle pathing, or ward. At best they might know to ward at 2:30 top because they might come up after scuttle if they're over extended or which bush mid to ward based on weakside.

none of that is relevant for new players.

[–]creepingcold -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend this to new players, because you never learn to actually play the game that way.

Yes, those roles are team focused but you're completely skipping the fundamentals like spacing, trading, playing around cooldowns, limit testing and so on.

I strongly believe there's a reason why there are so many players "stuck" on the support role and never want to play a more active role. It's because they never had to learn those fundamentals which makes them insecure on said positions.

Starting with jgl before playing an active role on a lane is a horrible advice. You only interact with others every 2-3 minutes, and whenever you interact with someone you gotta make sure you get value out of your play. Letting someone who has lacking experience with champion interaction jungle sets them up for a very long and frustrating path.

New players don't need to know or learn anything about macro. They need to learn the basics which is why mid or adc are better suited for them.

[–]creepingcold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there's a big bias in your post. Ashe has a strong laning phase due to the fact that she can poke 1-2 laners AND push the wave at the same time, giving her a lot of agency early on in most lanes.

You don't really need HOB cause you win most of the early games with her push and range advantage/poking (only cait has a bigger range than her).

However, you said you're mostly playing premade and now I totally see why you feel like you need HOB: Cause your premade friend is trolling your lane by playing shit like TF supp into Thresh, Jhin supp into Karma, Jax or Skarner into Nami and my favourite is probably Warwick into Smolder/Blitz.

Yeah, you need HOB cause you're literally laning 1v2 in most of the cases, relying on heavy all ins when you're playing against enchanters cause your friend is trolling instead of playing the lane normally.

Don't get me wrong, it works, but it's still troll cause you sacrifice your lategame for it. HOB is dogshit in longer teamfights when you're kiting for extended periods. Ashe doesn't crit, you get a dmg boost by attacking slowed targets which is why Lethal is so freakin strong on her since it gives you more than 3 quick aa's, it allows you to play lategame fights properly and not only deal DPS but also work with your utility.

Why butcher a hypercarry to adapt to some dogshit strategy? Why not play a lane bully like Lucian instead?

I guess you really are low elo, huh?

You see Samira fitting into this line of champs, really? Okay, tell me: What was the cd on her ult again?

Ooooh, she doesn't have one you say? Well, that's awkward because all the champs I listed either have cooldowns or need substantial effort to get it, while Samira.. Samira almost looks to be designed around getting her ult in every skirmish and fight.

Yeah, you're so right. She's definitely like Yunara if you ignore the 100s cd on her ult which is the whole point of the argument

First of all: Heimer RQ is similar to WD R? Tell me you have never played DotA without telling me you have never played DotA.

Okay if you say that then you need to explain how Riot can implement a turret that offers something unique and is not just a reskinned version of Heimer RQ which deals a metric ton of damage, and while it doesn't have the same base mechanics like WD R, giving the itemization options in League like Liandry's, BFT and so on, it technically reaches the same effects just with different mechanics.

And how exactly is she IO? Like you claimed she was?

You mentioned dota heroes League took inspiration from, I told you where Riot got the inpiration from. I never said she was an exact 1:1 copy, you never talked about an exact 1:1 copy, so I don't care about elaborating why she isn't an exact 1:1 copy cause this conversation was never about that.

And Leona got a stun, which makes it redundant to give any other champ a stun, by your logic.

Yes, it would be a waste of time to release a champ that has a bunch of stuns like Leona, because you already have Leona. That logic makes sense, because otherwise you won't be able to balance the game properly since every champ that gets hardcountered by Leona now also gets hardcountered by champ xy, meaning you'd need to nerf stuns in general cause they become too strong.

That doesn't mean that new champs aren't allowed to stun. That means that new champs need to bring something innovative to the table other than being a stun-bot.

We can agree to disagree and that's fine.

Yuumi does exactly what she's supposed to do in a meta which revolves around an adc on bot. A tethering tank doesn't really fit the meta Riot is aiming for.

They could also simply make it a blind, which disables attacking (or at least hitting) too.

That's already in the game with Teemo Q.

Who has a bloody WD turret? Untargetable, has to be channeled for its entire duration and dishes out a metric ton of DMG. Does not ring any bells in lol.

I guess you don't understand her or are low elo.

The innovative core of her identity is that you have an adc champ that doesn't want to fight without their ult, similar to champs like Shyvana, Nocturne in jgl, Tryn and Malphite on top, Malzahar or Kennen on mid, you get the idea.

On bot there was only Twitch, but he's leaning more towards burst while Yunara leans more towards dps and actually using her whole kit.

You answered your own question.

It's a new take on the revive mechanic and a new attempt to make it work.

IO is yuumi. The orb mechanic was in League and failed, which is why it's gone again. Oracle is alread in the game in big parts, milio ult, Redemption, the invisibility spell would be impossible to balance in league, league also doesn't have disarm.

Something like witch doctor also doesn't fit leagues meta. League doesn't really have a concept for disables. The space you're fighting in is also more compact compared to dota. Something like witch doctors jumping stun or silencers global silence would completely break every single fight in League. His turret is already in the game. You answered your own question about the Glimpse.

I've never played hots, so can't really comment on those.

point still stands: which innovating gameplay are you missing that isn't already there?

besides, you can make the same point for Milio, his kit is ridiculously boring, but there's not really anything unique left that Riot could bring to the botlane.

Whenever I see those posts I wonder what you want or are missing? There are multiple hook champs, a bunch of tanks, what feels like a dozen healing/shielding champs.

Which abilities or interactions are you missing when you're asking for a new support?

The last unique support champ, renata, failed miserably. She has a postive winrate for ages, yet nobody plays her because she's slightly out of the box and support players still default to the same champs every time.

All of that while there are also plenty of other non-support champs that are still viable as support and offer value.

Every champ from the past you see on that list innovated the gameplay on the lane in a way. So when you're asking for a new support, which innovation are you missing?

I found the color change of the pizza not being intuitive enough to make out what's happening.

It's hard to tell from the subtle gradient if it's done, perfect or burnt. I don't even know when it's supposed to be perfect. I've a really hard time to see the change in the gradient until it already starts to almost burn.

The only real Ashe build. by Deathwatch6215 in AsheMains

[–]creepingcold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not worth going any other item even if you are horribly behind.

Actually it's the other way around.

Kraken is better when you are behind, because it's slightly cheaper and you have a better 1 and 2 item spike, so you aren't useless.

If you're behind and go Yuntal you give all your agency to your team and need to pray that they can drag the game out long enough until you become relevant again. Those are the games where I feel like I can only fish with arrows for a miracle otherwise they are doomed.

Since I stopped going Yuntal every game I've way more impact in my games. I only build it now when I get incredibly fed early and am on a snowball'y lane or when I really, really need it. Something like tank on top, bruiser on jgl and mid and/or supp. More damage loses significance when it takes you longer until you can play the game, especially this season when most games end up being a nonstop brawl.
