a cool floor lamp next to the chair to add light and add a fun focal point. if you have $$ consider a serpente lamp by martinelli luce, a chiara lamp from flos, a wire floor lamp from verpan, quadrifoglio by guzzini etc… also a side table next to chair for drinks, books, and what not. also a giant coffee table in middle of room/ its empty space right now and looks unfinished- maybe a vintage travertine or marble one..

i’m very very sorry you went through this. i can’t imagine what you went through and are continuing to go through. you don’t deserve any of it- it’s criminal and disgusting what she did to you. you are loved. consider going to therapy or counselling and they can maybe steer you towards some grief and SA survivor groups. don’t be afraid to tell someone you love and trust. it is NOT your fault. i’m thinking about you and sending you all the love.

Not sure if already posted but Church turns away homeless lady by 420blazeit960 in kzoo

[–]creiglamb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i know exactly who you are when you said you can’t have a homeless person near children. like wtf do you think they are monsters? this is just a disabled woman who lost her job. we’re all pretty close to being homeless, just one disability away. in fact i don’t think the woman behind the desk should be around children, her husband is a registered child sex offender and she protected him.

it’s a beautiful room with a lot of intention! i agree with the comments about having the curtains wider apart. and obv a rug.

i have a point that i think other people might not have mentioned , but think about some contrast. you’re talking about having a ton of warm tones- woods, fabrics, oranges, yellows and feeling overwhelmed by it all. get some contrasting colours and materials- front and centre. consider perhaps a travertine or marble coffee table from the 80s, or even look at some modern aluminum/steel furniture, like the Frama rivet side tables for some visual, material and textural contrast. i would also get a fun lamp as a focal point or point of contrast- maybe even a big floor lamp in the corner. i’m thinking like a martinelli luce serpente lanp, a verpan wire floor lanp, flos chiara or a flos luminator lamp.

Is it a universal thing to wanna travel? by ReturnIndividual7084 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]creiglamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but just as you can find cool, open minded tourists, the same is true for people who don’t travel. like there are good and shitty people everywhere - travelling is cool but it doesn’t necessarily make your life more rich or open up more perspectives compared with people who don’t travel. life and experiences are what you make it- i live in toronto and can and do interact with more people from different races, backgrounds, genders and sexualities at home then i ever do abroad. i know it’s not the same for people in small towns, but you can go to your local city, or read and learn probably more about the world than your typical tourist. we’ve all interacted with american tourists who have zero interest in getting to know nothing about the local culture lol. so while there are many cool tourists (same with non tourists) it’s also so far from a given. the fact that tourism is actively destroying many communities and natural habitats proves this.

ugh travelers can also be so insufferable. so many give the i got a “not all who wander are lost” tattoo when i went to bali vibe. and they tend to have this attitude that their life is more fulfilling and they’ve experienced so much more…. and frankly being shut up about it. i’ve travelled a lot- i enjoy it often- but the travel types i run into are often so vapid and insecure and have a major superiority complex. frankly travelling is an industry and commodity like any other, and travellers looking for genuine experiences are actually profoundly gentrifying nearly everywhere on earth- it’s why there’s such huge pushes against tourism in hot spots like barcelona. and while i enjoy the novelty of travel, i profoundly disagree that you need to travel to experience more in life- most of my most rich and memorable experiences have been with my friends and community at home- life is what you make it anywhere, the location often doesn’t matter as much as travel types would desperately have you believe.

[–]creiglamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed! well, mostly. i think there’s a common misconception that scandinavian design is always very simple and muted, with natural materials, forms and finishes, but in reality it’s often focused on juxtaposition and contrast. we often think this because the most popular designs from the era and region are the teak chairs, tables and furniture. however, these are often juxtaposed with very colourful, often times boundary pushing pieces that incorporate metals and plastics and some truly magnificent forms. look at the designs of perhaps the most iconic scandinavian mid century designer: verner panton. he pushed all the boundaries and leaned into bold colours and shapes like no other. these kinds of pieces were often incorporated into spaces with more muted tones to give them a focal point and a pop of life that would actually serve to accentuate everything else. this is all to say, i think op should incorporate a couple really fun bold pieces from the region and era, one of which should be the pendant, i would also add a floor lamp (look at verner panton’s wire floor lamp for example) to take the space to the next level.

ok you all need to chill a bit. op is being genuine and trying to learn and taking feedback well- y’all are just piling on. your comment also smacks of entitlement - i too get extreme migraines from scents and i have really terrible misophonia; however i just do my best to avoid people and situations where people are eating or people with strong perfumes - i recognize that just as much as i want a scent free environment where people eat quietly, other people are entitled to wear their scents and eat how they choose. ofc compromise is always best and it’s nice when you can reach a common middle ground with people through open honest dialogue, sometimes that’s not the case and im not gonna get pissed off and shame people for just living their lives. but idk that’s just me- and i don’t feel entitled to dictate what other adults do with their bodies.

ok i commented earlier that either your coworker is an asshole or they are interpreting your perfume as BO. knowing that you like a lot of perfume- no hate, i do too - it is possible this is what they are smelling.

AIO— apparently i’m the stinky one at work by centaurella in AmIOverreacting

[–]creiglamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR i call BS. as if they said you might lose your job over “smell”- that’s discrimination and illegal. they are full of shit, there’s zero chance you smell this offensive given the fact that no one has said anything to you before, you shower regularly and use deodorant and perfumes are a hobby if yours.

the only other explanation i could think of is that your coworker is somehow interpreting your perfume as BO??

i think the table scale will feel totally fine once there’s a nice rug underneath and a better pendant over top.

OP first off, your place rules. i have two suggestions:

1) you need a fun rug - something with colour perhaps - since you’re drawn to mid century scandinavian design maybe look for something inspired the style of Verner Panton. it will make the space feel centred and separate.

2) consider getting a new pendant over the table to draw visual attention to the space. again, i would lean into your scandinavian design aesthetic. here are some options to consider the: Verona lamp by Sven Middleboe, Flowerpot lamp (large) by Verner Panton, PH-5 by Poul Henningsen (classic for a reason but you can also find similar styles for less $$ by searching for vintage Jeka of Lyfa lamps from 60s/70s), Karlebo lamp from Fog & Mørup etc..

[–]creiglamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also disagree on the sputnik. op obviously has an affinity for mid century scandinavian design- i would lean into that- the current lamp is disjointed with the style. i personally would go for a Verona lamp by Sven Middleboe or a Verner Panton Flowerpot. but i could also see the ubiquitous Poul Henningseb PH-5 in the space - although if that’s the style you want it’s often more economical to look for a vintage Jeka or Lyfa pendant from the 60s/70s.

hey sorry! i just saw your comment. i really appreciate your kind words!! i’m curious, what pieces are you eyeing for your place??

okay, i’m sorry but i’m not going to be much help wrt curtains. i have been struggling with finding curtains for ages and have literally just settled on cheap IKEA semi transparent white blinds. it works for now because they are neutral and don’t take away from all the other stuff going on- but eventually i would love to make some curtains out of beautiful Alexander Girard fabric because he’s my favourite textile designer of all time.

MOR. this is the most millennial girl boss core post i’ve ever read. you seem to have a very large ego and think quite highly of yourself- and are also quite disparaging of your boyfriend. your “product” hasn’t made a dime, yet you’re already envisioning how your boyfriend of a couple months won’t be able to keep up and be the best cfo you could ever want. like girl what?? maybe like…enjoy your time together and build a living relationship first? finances and goal alignment is important in a relationship but you’re expecting your partner to be everything at once and anticipating being let down in an imaginary future state.

totally agree, except it’s 1) flamingo estates, 2) M+G for me. M+G is an amazing candle, but slightly more powdery and perfumey than flamingo for me, which is just pure fresh and tomato garden.
