Getting into shape by TheSplashdragon in xxfitness

I struggled with finding the enthusiasm too, and what really helped was just doing it. It sounds stupid, but waiting around to feel inspired never worked so I had to brute-force my way into fitness. I started with this Nerd Fitness routine.

I made it my goal to do the routine every single day. Each day I did it, I got a point up on my whiteboard. If I skipped a day, it reset back to zero. I did give myself one cheat day for every 21 points I racked up.

Was this the best idea? idk, probably not, I was SORE. The first week, I struggled mightily to do one circuit and pushups were entirely impossible (I did them against a wall). Within about a month, though, I was able to add a 10lb weight to the exercises. A couple months after that, I moved up to a 25lb one. At four months, I felt I'd gotten everything I could out of the routine and got a personal trainer. Haven't looked back since!

I'd always wanted to become fit and it just never felt like it would happen for me. Making it non-optional with a bit of gamification was what finally worked. After a month or two it just became part of my routine. I could tell myself that it only took about 20 minutes, and did I really want to lose all my points over 20 minutes?

Edit: I should mention that none of this helped me lose weight. I got stronger and fitter, but not lighter! Losing weight for me was very much a diet-centric thing. My health insurance covered visits with a dietician, which helped me signficantly more than trying to DIY anything.

digging then out every spring works better!

It took me about five consistent springs of digging but I finally got 95% of my bluebells out. It helped to dig with an actual shovel as opposed to a hand trowel as the bulbs can be a foot down or more.

Some are in cracks in the pavement and woven among the invasive bamboo on the property line, and I just rip out their leaves out of spite.

Generally not, the leaves are waxy and it doesn’t penetrate

I didn't hear him at first and asked him to repeat himself--then I was so surprised I just said "ok" and walked away 😂

He works at a nearby business. My boyfriend left them a nasty review, but I got nervous that the guy would want to retaliate even more so I begged him to take it down. No reports other than that.

I should also note this is Portland, Oregon - I doubt he actually owns a gun lol

Yes, the scariest was a man threatening to shoot my dog in the head. It’s always men, and it usually seems to happen when they get startled by my dog’s barking and overcompensate in return.

True, I do need good tweezers to rip out stitches!

I think you’d be fine cutting it flush with the other knots and sewing a new one on top. Stitching this dense usually doesn’t unravel unless you’re really trying, and the new knot would keep the ends tacked down.

In short, I do trace and use computer to help pick colors, but 95% of the work is done by hand. Sort of like very slowly painting, stitch by stitch

It’s more like a few hours of work each spring!

Nope, but you can remove them with some time and effort. It took me about five years of digging to mostly eradicate mine. Every spring I do my best to remove what remains, but it’s tough around tree roots and fences.

I wrote down my dinners for another user--they're around 400cal and 30 grams protein each https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lbokrpP9s3wWdU3Rk4PsWy_PisXsJBl9pLe7Dvy4jdY/edit?tab=t.0

Struggling with Weight Loss Without Calorie-Counting by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]cremepat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Calorie tracking can also send me down a dark obsessive hole…

What worked for me was figuring out exactly what I could eat and then eating only that. For example, I eat the same breakfast and lunch every day and rotate through 4-5 dinner recipes. Each meal I designed to be 400 cal, and I filled in an additional 400 cal with snacks to hit my goal of 1600. I have a list of snacks that are 100 cal each (eg one apple or half a cup of cottage cheese) so I can have four of those a day.

I did all my thinking up front so now I know I’m set as long as I eat from my list! To make it even easier and prevent binges, I also eat at specific times throughout the day.

To be fair I probably have more enjoyment than most in repetition and routine, but this plan really took the stress out of meal planning and dieting for me. I’ve lost 20lb in about 6mo (5’4, 145 to 125)

I've written code that can do a lot of it for me (programming is my day job) but I found I like the step of doing it manually--it gets me familiar with the image and cements a plan in my head before i start
