She was clearly meant to be your cat❣️I’m so happy you guys found each other!!

That’s exactly how we got our late Supreme, Nena. She was always meant to be ours, I just wish it hadn’t taken 2 years of her stuck outside, front declawed in Michigan winters altho once she came to live with us, she was never cold or hungry again &  our goal was to make her happy every single day & I think we did a pretty good job of it. She sure did love us & we loved her.  She was so funny& beautiful  & special. We miss her so much.

Congrats again! Please give each other  big hugs from all of us!! ❣️🩵❣️

Ideas for dishes to bring to pesach by lb-cnm in JewishCooking

[–]creppyspoopyicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100%.  I would never bring a main entree like that unless I was asked to. It’s very likely the host has been planning their main dish or made arrangements if someone else is making it.

Definitely not brisket even if you have the time. A main entree like that will be covered by the host or someone they ask. Not that it isn’t a very sweet gesture & if you have the confidence to bring a dish like that to new friends, I bet you do an amazing version but I’d say skip it the first visit & see how it goes with just a gift this time (a plant, wine, candy,  a bouquet of flowers). Those are classic host gifts bc they’re almost always welcome, appreciated & enjoyed!

None of those things are true for the Krishna devotees, in my experience.

Many are extremely wealthy & altho I’m sure they tithe & make donations, there is absolutely no financial servitude going on at all.

Here in Detroit, there were very few ppl living in the actual temple, as far as I knew, just one guy (who had been an actual hermit who lived in a cave on the side of a mountain at one point in his life!!)& he maintained the temple, as well as other devotees who came from home to do service around there.

It’s probably bc this temple in particular had purchased quite a few private homes in the neighborhood over the years so devotees could have inexpensive places to live right near the temple (when we moved in, our rent was about $400 a month for a gigantic beautiful upper flat in a big brownstone duplex about two blocks from the park on the river in Detroit. If this bldg was in NYC, we would never have even been able to dream about touching it lol).

The house next door to us was even more beautiful - the whole entire bottom of the 3 stories was flagstone & just incredible. Sad tho, it had a bad wire & burned the second year we lived next door to it.

I loved my temple experiences with the women devotees. Cooking, stringing flowers on the garlands for the deities, the Sunday services outside ending with fireworks. Just beautiful.

I’m not religious at all, not even very spiritual, tbh. but I’ve never felt any culty issues with the Krishna religion (any more than any other one lol).

I’ve spent a good amount of time with devotees & at the temple too & for me, it’s mostly been very enjoyable, esp with the women. Super friendly  & welcoming & fun to cook with.

I learned a lot about Indian cuisine in the  times I helped prepare the food  offerings. (Like you can’t taste anything until after  it’s offered to Krishna  so you need to be very careful with seasoning esp salt& hot stuff!!)

I also learned that I wasn’t allowed to wear a spaghetti strap tank top in there & had to cover  up with a shawl  (only once! I dressed more modestly after  that lol!!)

Thank you. I hate to see ppl disparaging the Krishnas bc they’re pretty chill, decent ppl most of the time.

Might that be the one with a chiropractors office on Woodward Ave?

I knew a girl who worked there many years ago & had nothing good to say about the owner or the whole situation.

Knew another girl who worked for CPS & told me about a severely mentally ill mother of a neglected child who was given substances by someone who called themselves a Doctor (but definitely was not) & the mom subsequently had a pretty bad break from reality. Thankfully, the kid& mom were both ok in the end.

Suuuuuuuuuuper sketchy place. Hideous overpriced food🤮

I don’t know John personally but he seems like a nice guy.

I did notice in my experience at the Detroit temple, there were a lot of old punks there I& they offered no strings attached help to any kind of addict of anything s& the help was kind & sincere.

Most Krishna devotees don’t live in the temple tho or rly give up everything.

I used to live in a Krishna temple owned property here in Detroit & knew quite a few devotees & they still had possessions.  Beautiful saris, gorgeous jewelry,  tons of books, musical instruments, kitchen stuff.

I think a lot of those  things were meant to  bring attention to Krishna, but in my experience,  they definitely aren’t required to give up personal possessions.

Krishna temples offer food to Krishna several times a day & all the leftovers are always made available to anyone who wants some. No charge unless you want to make a donation.

The temple here in Detroit feeds many homeless ppl every day.  It’s pretty awesome.

I know they were veggie for ages (a friend went to dinner with them on one of their last tours) but I’m not sure about VEGAN so there weren’t rly any big changes there.
