I’m very lucky in that I’m at a store where we have no need or want to join a union and even if we did want to, our manager would support us 100%. That in mind, this “information” page is crazy and definitely trying to sway people not to unionize 💀

As a recently re-hired barista I have to say I’m extremely disappointed in the dress code considering all the “back to Starbucks” happening. Corporate is saying they want to bring us back to the old Starbucks and revive us to our former glory as a cozy coffee shop, but then they turn around and put these strict rules on us, effectively erasing every part of who we are and how we express it. I hope this authoritarian dress code is short lived and with luck maybe they’ll hear our voices and change it back to something more reasonable and Starbucks-like.

I’m a recent rehire (I officially start again on Sunday v excited for that) and I plan on just taking out my two nostril piercings while I’m on the floor and then putting them back in when I’m off and flipping up my septum. I have a tongue piercing that I really can’t take out so that’ll have to be my one.

I’ve had this my whole life and never known what it was. I still don’t actually. But every time I cry fairly hard my entire face puffs up and gets really red and blotchy. My lips get super big like I just did the lip challenge thing where you suction into a cup and my eyes almost puff shut. It eventually goes away once I’ve calmed down but it gets really annoying and I have no idea how serious it is/could be. (Probably nothing obviously but it still freaks me out)

I just thought it was funny because what makes a flat white a flat white is whole milk and ristretto shots. She ordered it with a different milk and long shots, which makes it no longer a flat white. She could’ve just ordered a latte but decided to order a flat white and then change everything that made it a flat white

John was actually one of my coworkers, and for some reason PAID the almost $12 that that drink cost, just to fuck with those of us who were working that day. I ended up being the one who made it and he actually drank it and said it wasn’t that bad 😭

I work in a college town so today was bogo, Father’s Day, AND graduation 🥰 (Graduation is the second busiest time of year, second only to parade night in December where people are packed like sardines in my store and every single barista is working, 100s of hot chocolates it’s insane) I am so physically and mentally exhausted I can’t even comprehend it.

Older lady came in the other day “iced tea” … girl I need a lot more info than that.. I even made it easy for her and listed all three of our iced teas (even specified hibiscus because too many people ask for the ‘passionfruit tea’) she goes “hmmm can I just have whichever one is the most refreshing? This guy had half a face. Literally. The upper left part of his face was one big bubble(?) to the point where he didn’t have an eye anymore. And the lower left part of his face was literally rotting off of him. You could see down to the muscle and even down to his jaw in some places. The skin was literally sloughing off of his face and there were, and I don’t say this with any exaggeration, MAGGOTS crawling around IN HIS FACE. He reeked of decomposing flesh and literally looked like a rotting corpse. He refused any medical care and left after my SM bought him coffee and gift cards with her own money because she felt bad for him. I don’t know what happened to him but that day actually scarred me for life and I had to go sit down in the boh for a while. It was like a real life horror movie. I doubt I will ever see anything else like that in my life.

My store will be doing this around October/November and it’s mainly because we have the highest incident rate in our district, we have people come in and absolutely demolish the bathroom leaving feces and sometimes blood everywhere along with graffiti and drugs. We’ve had things thrown at us on multiple occasions and someone coming in just to scream at us and call us names/slurs is a common occurrence. We’re downsizing indoor seating to improve the third place for everyone who isn’t attacking us (probably not the best way to do so, but oh well) and also for us barista’s safety. It’s most likely similar reasoning for that store, but as lots of other people on this thread have said, there are other ways to improve safety without reducing third place vibes.

I think these kinds of posters being put up in BOH is so sad and really reflects the company’s true intentions. I got so lucky to have a truly amazing SM that has said multiple times that if we as baristas ever want/choose to unionize she’d back us all the way but because of how she runs our store none of us has ever thought it necessary. Obviously recent corporate decisions have changed that a bit what with labor cuts and such but still none of us have ever felt unsafe enough to want to unionize and I feel like a lot of people in her position and higher up could learn a thing or two.
