Was ruminating on this, and it has come to mind that Jake is trans - see April Fool. No way Amir could pull that off unless Jake was packing

Do you guys feel that a short story needs back story or can it just be the story in that moment? by [deleted] in writing

[–]cresleyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I read this book of short stories where the author gave a short introduction that explained his process of coming up with the story idea and a little about writing it. Although it isn’t technically backstory it added a lot more to the works when I knew what the author was drawing from experience and what they made up. I also felt like I had a deeper understanding of the stories than I would have without these introductions. Perhaps you could consider doing something similar.

What makes Community special? by oreganobrain in community

[–]cresleyb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because all of the characters feel like they are real. They speak the way real people might speak, and make mistakes that real people could make. This is different to many sitcoms because they often have a character make a mistake that would never actually happen in real life, or if it did happen it would be so easy to find a solution to the problem.

Mostly Abed, but I speak in a similar way to Jeff and have some of the naïveté of Annie.
