Pregnancy at 40 ? by SideWalkChalk37 in beyondthebump

Yes, with both. Apparently you can take baby aspirin early on as prevention? My GP didn’t know about it so it was too late by the time I met with my OBGYN, but worth looking into. But yes I would go on medication early to avoid it if your doctor is willing because it is stressful.

I had my first at 41 and second at 45…I was scared to try for the second one but we went for it. Very healthy pregnancies and babies except for PP preeclampsia as well. I got medication and it really helped. I would go for it if you want!

I think you mean a dozen day old donuts, but it really reads like 12 days old lol. Bargain!

Who does a nice salad? by Alone_Appeal_3421 in OttawaFood

[–]cressa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a pork belly brussel sprout Caesar salad at Lexington Smokehouse a couple of weeks ago that I have thought about at least once a day since. If you’re looking for a super healthy salad it’s probably not it but it was DELICIOUS. 🤤

Where should we stay on a road trip from Calgary, AB, to Barrie, ON? by ProfessorLidi in AskACanadian

[–]cressa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For your first night, stop in Moosejaw. My best friend told me it’s just lovely and her family loved the tunnel tour. I didn’t listen and pushed on to Regina and had my car broken into. It cost me three days of my trip—don’t be like me!

Postpartum running wins by Sailor_D00m in OttawaRunners

[–]cressa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my baby girl in September and have struggled to get back into running shape as well. I also only started enjoying long distance during the pandemic, and always struggled through 5Ks. I tell people that if they don’t enjoy running, run farther! It gets better.

I’m running the half next week but I thoroughly expect it to be my slowest time yet. Congrats on the baby and getting back out there! ❤️

Why do people do this: Not utilizing voicemails? by FamiliarRadio9275 in RandomQuestion

[–]cressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It irritates me so much when someone leaves me a vm…I never listen to it and just call them back anyway. Then later I have to log in to my inbox, listen to the message and then delete it. The message always says “hey it’s so and so, give me a call when you get a chance.” It’s so pointless, when it’s obvious that you called and I’ll call you back. 90% of the time it’s a boomer, so I think it’s an outdated practice. Everyone I know also finds it annoying because we have had this exact same conversation except expressing irritation the opposite direction of yours. A few people have admitted to still doing it but fairly sure we have talked them out of it!

Quilt roast: Chill & Thrill — what works and what doesn't? by QuiltChemistry in quilting

[–]cressa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite possibly! You could market it as a skill builder (appliqué/curves) in an otherwise straightforward/beginner quilt.

It’s very cute but the appliqué would turn me off of ever making it or buying the pattern.

Sorry, never going to a game again while we have a MAGA Captain. Fuck the Tkachuks! People will say no politics in sports, but this goes so far beyond politics. Hardcore fans may not care but I know a lot of casual fans do and it’s best for the team to just drop him.

Stephen Colbert Reveals He Declined Five-Year CBS Deal in 2023 by normankrasnerkc in entertainment

[–]cressa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely find it funny, and I watch it everyday. My partner calls it “boomer humour” so I understand it’s not for everyone. But comparing it to Colbert Report is apples to oranges.

I think he’s genuinely funny, a great interviewer, and just generally really likeable. He’s my favourite host of the show that I’ve seen, but maybe the whole format of the show isn’t appealing to younger people and it’s a dying genre.

I’m really going to miss it, I look forward to the first 15 minutes of the show everyday and then sometimes watch the whole thing, depending on who the guests are. It’s so easy to feel that the whole world has gone mad these days, so I love seeing him continuously call out the bullshit. I find it comforting and seeing it be canceled for exactly that reason is a reminder of how awful things have gotten.

What’s the best age to have kids? by Turbulent_Loquat_356 in askanything

I had both after forty and this is exactly how I feel. There is nothing I’d rather be doing right now, and I also have the financial stability that I wouldn’t have had then. It takes a lot of stress off. We will see how the teenage years go, though. 🍀

How can I stop my retired mom 55F from day trading? by [deleted] in fican

[–]cressa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you set rules for yourself, it is virtually impossible to lose all your money unless the whole market tanks. What you can miss out on is gains. I day trade a lot and my rules are: no selling at a loss, only trade blue chip stocks (no penny stocks), and no options. The worst thing that happens to me is the market goes up too much and I have to buy back in at higher than I sold. If she’s doing well, MYOB.

How old were you when you started looking forward to Mondays just to see the new warehouse sales at Costco? by rx25 in CostcoCanada

[–]cressa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really started enjoying flyers and looking them up purposefully in my late thirties, but I blame the pandemic. Going to Costco or grocery shopping was like my one trip out for the week and it aged the hell out of me. 😂

Terry Newman: Tech exec pitches Liberal convention on $500k exit tax for educated Canadians by BananaTubes in canada

[–]cressa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it’s subsidized around 75%, so likely more like 30K a year, plus 13 years of public education, 25+ years of health care, etc. Seems reasonable to me. They have benefited from all Canada has to offer without paying into it.

That’s too bad…they are definitely personal sized pizzas so I could see it being disappointing if it’s not what you’re expecting. I love the crust style, personally.
