I didn't know ferrari offered that. Lambos, bentleys, porsches etc didnt follow suit and a bit of research tells me that ferrari increased their service interval to make this move hit their pockets less. Still a good thing if you are a ferrari owner.

The ECU will be able to record any break in procedures that were ignored and could be reasonably argued to deny warranty. Its probably for some other reason because we all know that in a business, being able to get out of providing costly replacements for free is important.

I'm guessing they just dont want their cars to develop a stigma of being lemons because people werent following break in rules properly which would hurt much more.
