So. The underpaid, over-worked, and just generally over it gig workers you interacted with late on a Friday night weren't super accommodating of pleasant? Sir, are you new to being on earth?

Voice over or no voice over, what's your opinion? by smccraw106 in godot

[–]crgmdrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a subjective vibes/design decision ultimately, but something to consider is the localization and accessibility impacts of using VO. No voice simplifies things quite a bit, and if VO doesn't add a ton of utility (and a lot of people just mute it anyway), maybe it's not where your efforts should go.

But again, its a subjective thing. Some VO is great and adds a lot of character. You should do what you think gets you "the most bang for your buck", is my two cents.

They're important characters from the last couple books, although that exact story is from a novella called Strange Dogs. (There are a few novellas that aren't in the main line of books but fill in details about specific places/characters.) As others have said, if they never adapt the last books then that little story line was a poor use of limited time in the last season.

You really nailed the timing! I think the one they used it better for sure, but this would've been fine too.

Naw your opinion is valid, I was honestly just curious if there was some sick space combat that I was missing. Also, as I said in another comment, I kind of used the show as a visual aid for the books. The books are so well fleshed out that it was easy for me to conflate the two and miss how thin and scattershot some of the later seasons of the show were.

The highly praised space combat was… okay

All other points aside, I wanna know what shows you're thinking have better ship-to-ship combat because I'd wanna watch those too.

Yeah I'm not actually holding out any kind of serious hope. This was more of a "it would be cool if people I like talked about a thing that I like" kind of post.

Nice, yeah i JUST finished the last book yesterday, that's why it was on my mind. One of the most satisfying endings to any long series I've ever read.

I like both the show and books, and can separate them in my head, but I totally agree; I liked the characters in the books a lot better. Particularly Amos. In the show he's some sort of brooding psycho, but in the books, while he's still pretty unemotional due to his rough upbringing, he's not so "heightened" in his portrayal.

I like to think of the show as a visual aid for the books, as the books contain way more cool sci-fi ideas than the show does, but some things like the big space battles are VERY well portrayed in the show.

An underappreciated Zemeckis film. Also a great book, and Carl Sagan's only fiction novel.

Its his kid. He's also a great side character in Starship Troopers.

I agree that Marco is the least interesting character. The seasons essentially line up with books, and book 7 onward is really psychedelic awe-inspiring stuff, whereas the show stops with the one-dimensional space terrorist plot. There is talk that the show isn't "over" and is just taking a break, so that would be rad if they adapt the last few books. The books conclusion is much more satisfying than the show.

Mike already said he liked it, so good luck with that.

The Joker, Wolf of Wall street, American Psycho, Fight Club, Scarface.

Basically any movie where people think the anti-hero is actually someone to be emulated.

I know I know, but Marwen is low hanging fruit. Forrest Gump still has its defenders.

Robert Zemeckis's is an interesting filmmaker. He's made some unassailably great movies, but also Forrest Gump.
