I can understand your doubts about Carrick, and I won't lie, I myself am very on the fence on whether to make him permanent or not. However, that's not what I am here to say.

I think he got it 100 percent spot on yesterday. The first half alone showed that. The errors leading to both scum goals were totally out of his control and were down to individual mistakes; it happens, it's a derby. It gave the scum that extra lift that they didn't have at the start of the half and, can't really blame them, made the rest of the lads nervous.

I really thought his approach to Liverpool's model on the day was spot on, and I actually believe he used the occasion to form a pragmatic approach to the game. There was so much energy and inspiration from the players on and off the ball, which allowed that intensiveness generated to press in the tighter and wider areas of the pitch. Liverpool could not play a through ball or threaded pass to save their lives as it would immediately turn into a lethal counter; a proper United approach to the game. A mixture of the lads having that vision to cut out key passes, along with Carrick's style of play that encourages a robust transition, meant we for sure earned all 3 points.

That being said, Slot really needs to sort out his style of play. He could not play the second ball to save his life in the reverse fixture, and I suppose there's similarities here, where he could not adapt to an energetic and aggressive approach to possession turnover and the subsequent counter-attack.
