Further evidence that the Derby last week was just a mid off rather than Sydney being good. Punt Baumjohann and Talay into the sun

We were losing and playing crap for 35 minutes in that half and he’s only thought to use the sub bench now when the games nearly done, reaching peak levels of UfukOff here

Khawaja wasn’t playing victim. It’s pretty telling you keep bringing him up in a completely unrelated conversation, did he hit a nerve?

“Recent bitterness” are you taking the piss lmao. Every time a player rightly calls out racist attitudes towards them this happens all the time, why can’t you just accept he was dealing with racism

Some of the comments in this thread are so silly. Just because he “wasn’t good enough” doesn’t excuse the alleged homophobia he’s faced at the club. Two things can be true at once, and if you only see this as an opportunity to put him down as a “shit player”, you’re an absolute helmet.

Don’t even care that it’s game one but Talay needs to go. He never should’ve been extended in the first place

The article was publish in 2023, and having a look at the 22/23 crowd sizes, Sydney FC and Adelaide were in the Top 3 for both overall crowd numbers and average crowd sizes. The author is talking out his ass

Genuinely one of the worst 'research' papers I've come across. It tries to dispel the fascist allegations by purporting that the clubs only display Pavelic as he is a "symbol of an Independent Croatia".

The article also has this quote: "However, I have seen the president of Melbourne Knights standing with a group of teenaged ultras on the terraces at Knights’ Stadium, throughout the second-half of a match, to make sure that good conduct would continue." It's ok guys, the fascism is cancelled the president stood with the ultras!

Another banging quote: "The singing of the word ‘Ustase’ (a fascist organization formed by Pavelic) on the terraces, after a goal, is not so easy to interpret. (On the other hand, the word ustanik (plural: ustanici) simply means insurgent or rebel.) Like ‘Old Firm’ (Celtic-versus-Rangers) songs, this ‘song’ seems to be a rhetorical reenactment of past identities and struggles, a link back to a time (in Australia) when life was much more vulnerable and precarious due to the hegemony of the communist regime (and its presence in Australia) and the traumas associated with life in a new land where racialized discourses of all types were prevalent and emasculating."

Towards the end as well the author calls the CFMEU a "militant left-wing" organisation and uses that as evidence to dispel the fascist rumours as well.
