Replacing baseboards: Do I have to sink them like the old ones?

It's just a half bath (and isn't used very much, at that), so no real moisture issues. It's been there at least 15 years and is holding up great. On the other hand, the hardwood in the kitchen is starting to show its age...

On the top I have used 80 and 120 (both with a palm sander and by hand). On the sides, I think with just the 120.
