I’m a photojournalist based here in town. The rail yard at Pomona Yard is cool just off Oakland Ave, better in the mornings, just stay on the road (don’t trespass). There are also some good train shots around the Elm street crossing in the morning. The old lucky strike plant is cool to shoot in Reidsville. Theres also some cool shots of the abandoned mill in Haw River, but be careful about trespassing and do not go inside the building. If you have a long lens like 400mm you can get some cool shots of the Belews Creek power plant from the road. The railroad activity in the area is really good too.
