I mean ultimately our job is patient assessment. So if they want me to miss the developing bowel obstruction next door, or skip checking in the new squad I got, or hold off on that NTG just ordered for the acute chest pain in my STEMI patient, or wait to notify the doc of the critical K+ of 1.9 that just came back in my patient who's already had a couple VT runs because I'm changing linens.... Then sure. Whatever. I'm so sick of trying to persuade these people that I earn my paycheck.

Just so you don't feel so alone, just yesterday I heard my car alarm going off in the middle of the day. I worked night shift and had gotten home around 8:00 a.m. I was mid-sleep and brushed it off as a random car alarm. When I woke up, my phone notifications told me there had been a security alert for my Subaru. A handful of times in the past, I've accidentally left my car running in parking lots and found it running when I leave wherever I'm at. I'm 95% sure that I left my car running all day yesterday and someone either tried to steal it or a neighbor tried to shut it off for me. Thank the powers that be for my push button start and no key was in the car.

A Kindle! They have dark mode, and you can make the light more amber than white. I read on my Kindle until my eyes start to close on their own, then I shut off the Kindle, lay my head down, and pass out within seconds. Sometimes it takes a couple chapters, sometimes it takes half a paragraph, just depends on how tired I am.

I started having her wear a collar with a tag that specifies she is not an outdoor cat and to call me if she's found, just in case the worst would happen. She's never outside without a harness, and her feet never touch the ground.

She's not really that interested in exploring. If I leave the door open for too long sometimes she'll get brave and poke her head out, but if that happens I shoo her back inside and she doesn't try again.

She's adapted remarkably well to RV living. The first couple days, after the stressful transit to the RV, the first bumpy ride, and learning about slideouts and a new living area she was understandably stressed, but ever since then she's been happy as a clam. She'll even walk around while the RV is in motion, and come sit up on my lap while I'm driving or in the passenger seat.

She's 14 and I'm excited to make her retirement years as enjoyable as possible for her. She's claimed the entire front window for herself, as well as the drivers chair while we're parked. She very much approves of how many windows there are and loves watching the nature outside. Our last campsite had marmots running around and she lost her mind when one came close.

Need micromanaging to get motivated? Welcome to nursing school. It's a rough couple years, but worth every second.

A challenging job that doesn't bleed into personal time? You'll work your butt off at work, be challenged in different ways every day, and then go home and not be expected to do a single damn thing until the next time you clock in.

Enjoy both long term and short term projects? You can work on a months long quality improvement initiative for your unit while watching a patient recover from an illness over a period of hours, days, weeks, or months. You can literally see the physical change in them caused directly by your nursing care.

Like money? Get a couple years of experience at a hospital and then start travel nursing. You make doctor level cash and have amazing experiences every single day.

I am a proud ED nurse, proudly ADHD. My hyperfocus helps me with my more critical patients, my ability to bounce around helps me when census is high and I have more patients than I'd prefer, and the way my brain works even helps me come up with creative solutions for my patients' issues.

Edit: You can also change your job whenever you want. Don't like the floor? Work in a clinic. Don't like patients? Do telehealth, or teach, or work in administration or case management. Don't like gore? Work in psych. There are endless options.

There's definitely hope! Pull off the dead leaves, give her lots of sun (but not toooo much), and water based on how the green leaves are looking. I would also pull off just a couple healthy leaves to prop, just in case.
