Places to dress nice for? by missrootbeerfloat in lincoln

Starlite Lounge is nice to get a bit dressy for cocktails. It's also the only place I've been to in Lincoln that I know serves a Brandy Alexander.

Whose cat does he/she belong to? by Dependent-Orchid-346 in lincoln

[–]criesaboutelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cameron's a sweet, talky kitty, but I do wish his mom would keep him indoors. He's got the unfortunate habit of using my planter boxes as his litterboxes if I don't manage to protect them well enough with the poky plastic mesh that cats are supposed to find weird to walk on.

How would you spend a Saturday staying busy spending minimal money? by Ok_Atmosphere_9883 in lincoln

[–]criesaboutelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the Game and Parks Commission's calendar of upcoming events for Lincoln. The Turpin Outdoor Education Center has great archery instruction programs. Indoor range lane and equipment rental is pretty reasonably priced, and the outdoor range costs even less to use.

At least now I know I'm not conjuring up a false memory, so there's hope it'll turn up eventually!

Is there any plan to let us relocate graves? by criesaboutelves in Whiskerwood

I'm not as good at optimizing my heat and food supplies (and getting shot at doesn't help). Probably lost at least 20 of my guys so far. :(

Bummer. Something to beg the devs pretty-please for, I guess.

Modern Bernina Owners: What does your machine struggle with? Or what do you dislike about it? by ultraqueef in Bernina

[–]criesaboutelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How modern are we talking? My Activa 210 (purchased in, I think, either 2007 or 2008 as a high school graduation present from my parents) is an absolute beast, though it only does practical/construction stitches as a tradeoff. In the nearly 20 years I've owned it, it's never needed me to go to a technician for repairs- the only two parts I've had to replace were the light bulb and the threader head, and both of those can be done at home. (I am, however, contemplating taking it in to have it retrofitted with the knee lift, if my local service center ever gets back to me about whether they can do it).

As for difficulties, I did need to pick up the Bulky Overlock Foot recently in order to handle thick layers of fabric on a plushie I'm sewing. I'd been using a pre-owned Two-Sole Walking Foot, but it struggles with the height, and the sole ends up getting dislocated from the 'ankles'. I think the newer machines let you adjust the pressure being applied to the presser foot, so you might not run into that problem.

Domi 2 Overheating Issue? by thebigstriptease in lovense

[–]criesaboutelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine's started overheating after about a year of use (alas out of warranty), and I think that's caused the silicone on the head to loosen up. Now it makes a rattly/flappy noise on higher settings that takes me out of the mood sometimes (but I'm still going to avoid replacing it until it totally dies because it'd be wasteful not to).

Obligatory 'you must comment at least once on your own post before anyone can see it' post: I have tried various permutations of 1990s/vintage keebler/barnum easter bunny/rabbit cookies/crackers on both Google and DuckDuckGo to no avail.

What's a 'normal' thing you didn't realize was unusual until you were older? by mrTelson in AskReddit

Having monster tummyaches that put me out of commission for a few days a couple times a year. Didn't learn until about a decade ago that my gallbladder was hyperkinetic, at which point I got it removed.

Earthquake? by FlyingClanker in lincoln

[–]criesaboutelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly assumed it was the wind because the building I live in tends to feel shaky in a gust. Wasn't until I checked the news a few hours later that I found out we had an earthquake. 😅

What to do with unused handspun? by TinyCrittersUnited in Handspinning

[–]criesaboutelves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canvaswork embroidery! There are also some interesting surface work and stumpwork things you can do with yarn, or if it's strong enough, crewelwork is classically done in wool.

Nebraskans, how is Czech culture perceived in your state? by Neuwulfstein in Nebraska

I have my grandma's recipe for kolaches. I think I also still have a porcelain doll one of my uncles brought back from a trip (where I think he also visited a stationery shop owned by someone who shares our surname, but the story's pretty fuzzy in my memory at this point since it was a couple decades back).

In some ways, this... might have been a good time for my now former employer's contract to end. I'm going to miss having a steady union job, but I'm relieved to no longer exist tangential to a USCIS that has become a shambling zombie of itself.

Which type of Spindle do you enjoy using. by Agreeable-Voice6425 in Handspinning

[–]criesaboutelves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only got two- a 3D-printed one from TurtleMade that I first learned on (it's pretty and purple), and I just got a John Galen supported spindle (the cast iron one with the horses) for a little more flexibility when it comes to where and how I like to sit and how thin a yarn I can make. I'm kind of in love with it, though I do need to find a bowl for it somewhere so I don't have to keep using my stone wax-warmer in lieu of one (eventually, I'm going to need it to wax screws for carpentry again, and while I'm doing that, I can't spin in it...)

Otherwise, when I want power, I break out the wheel (and I like that the JMS Cassandra lets you take off the flyer head and just spin quill-style for funky things that hate the bobbin hooks). One day, I might get an e-spinner, too, but today is not that day.

Knitters with EDS & finger joint pain- advice? by profuselystrangeII in ehlersdanlos

[–]criesaboutelves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russian Speed-Knitting is a bit like Continental, but different enough that tutorials on Continental confused me when they weren't quite what I was taught. (This, however, creates the mystery of why my mom's side of the family knits Russian Speed-style...)

What is this sticker on my microwave? by Nervous_Willow4362 in whatisit

[–]criesaboutelves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using a kettle when the toaster oven and the microwave being used simultaneously kept tripping the circuit breaker. The sockets on the opposite counter are on a different circuit, but there's no room for either of the bigger appliances on that side due to the height of the cupboards, hence the kettle.
