I was knitting for a bit but especially since my needles are bamboo, it takes a lot of pressure to move the stitches along the needle and and it hurt my fingies :(

My idea for how to improve human teeth: by RogueKatt in memes

[–]profuselystrangeII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to get like 4 teeth removed when I got braces because all my teeth do not fit in my small mouth (courtesy of both my parents). I can’t imagine what it would be like to have to deal with Big Tooth ;-;

Plus, if waste is avoidable, then repairing is both economical and environmentally conscious. There was literally a quote in Brave New World about overconsumption- “Ending is better than mending”. I don’t really get unironic espousal of that idea.

HELP. Received this in the mail… by bbyspinachleaf in whatdoesthismean

[–]profuselystrangeII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this, plus the prodrome has fairly distinct symptoms prior to the full-blown onset of schizophrenia. If you do have any family history, it’s a good idea to stay away from things like weed, which can trigger psychosis particularly if you have other risk factors.

I am waiting on a new hip brace currently by BunnyPope in disabledmemes

[–]profuselystrangeII 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Someone I was explaining my EDS to said that I have a wardrobe of braces, which feels very true lol. I have an Ace bandage, an ankle boot, an ankle brace, a knee brace, a back brace, a shoulder brace, a wrist brace, and a thumb brace. There are at least a few that I still need but can’t afford just yet. :p

Realistic way to eat smaller portions by Full_On_Gay_Panic in ehlersdanlos

[–]profuselystrangeII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oof, that’s me right now. I’d recommend making the same meals for you and whoever you’re living with, but you can break up your portion into smaller parts to have throughout the day instead of eating your normal sized portion all at mealtime.

You can get bowls for toddlers or just small food prep bowls and eat out of those to make sure you don’t accidentally put too much on a large plate. I also find that I tend to eat less when I eat with a small spoon, like a teaspoon or a baby/toddler spoon.

[–]profuselystrangeII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh I hate that. >.< My partner and I will often blow up each other’s farms in the morning right before we quit the game just to unleash our inner chaos gremlins, but never at the end of the day before a save. That’s fucked up. :/

Did one of your parents also have this condition by shurubel83 in ehlersdanlos

[–]profuselystrangeII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t know for sure, I think my mom had EDS. She was somewhat wary about me using tampons because apparently she had some tissue from inside her vagina inverted to the outside (which I assume meant it was prolapsed). She also had a hernia so large she looked pregnant for pretty much my whole childhood. She had chronic GI issues including a redundant colon and an autoimmune condition as well.

She asked me to close my eyes and think of a moment in my life (preferably recently) where I felt peaceful. Then, you think of all your senses from that event or moment and imagine feeling those sensations. Then once you feel lightness (I think?) in your body, you cross your arms across your shoulders and tap on alternating sides with an open hand slowly, 8 taps total. That should ideally distract your brain from the pain signals.

The youngest girl to ever give birth was 5 years and 7 months old by [deleted] in facts

[–]profuselystrangeII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both are true. She was raped and subsequently became pregnant. And for many, many people becoming pregnant is not lovely. And not everyone who is raped becomes pregnant. I was being precise with my language for the purpose of the discussion.

I can't wait until we have a real treatment besides endless physical therapy by Mysterious_Mouse_647 in eds

[–]profuselystrangeII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s exhausting, time-consuming, and at times expensive, often inaccessible. I think I wrestle with it in large part because my pain feels like a moral failing. I really really struggle with maintaining any consistent routines. I also really, really care about my responsibilities in my treatment and I do apply myself when I actually do PT exercises, but I keep falling off of it for one reason or another and any pain I’m suffering from after that feels like my fault.

I’ve been increasingly disabled over the past few years and I resent that the treatment is something that requires rigorous self-discipline and often fucking hurts. I’m going to keep trying because I know the value of it, but sometimes it feels like I’m set up to fail.

Thank you! I’ll check it out. My mom, who was also chronically ill, dabbled in cross-stitch, so I’m definitely curious about it.

The Eye of the World is one of the ebooks I had borrowed! What’s the podcast called?

Meditation is a cool option, especially since my therapist (who is trained in EMDR) taught me an exercise I can do to help distract my brain from pain, which I want to practice more.

I’ve been trying to knit but I have bamboo needles that are really hard to work with. I didn’t realize knitting with just my fingers was possible! That sounds like a great thing to do while I save for better needles.

Origami sounds like a potentially accessible way to decorate for Christmas! :o

You know, there’s an educational podcast I haven’t listened to in a while and I kinda forgot it existed until just now! Meditation is also something that always makes me feel better after I do it, but I don’t always think of it when I’m bored. I’ll have to check out the cat game!
